WELCOME TO NCR COUNTRY CLUB in Kettering Ohio, and home of the 2022 U.S. Senior Women’s Open. The field of 120 senior women will compete from August 25-28.

The 2022 U.S. Senior Women’s Open at NCR-August 25-28.

THE 2022 U.S. Senior Women’s Open was supposed to be the 2021 U.S. Senior Women’s Open. But Covid-19 changed all of that, and as a result NCR Country Club will bring championship golf to the State of Ohio, and host the championship this August.

But NCR has been moving forward with it’s preparations for months, and will be ready when this August arrives.

The 2022 U.S. Senior Women’s Open will be the first held at NCR, and the fourth overall. But it’s not the first USGA Championship held at the Club, in fact it will be the fifth USGA championship at NCR. But the first since the 2013 USGA Women’s State Team Championship. In 1986 NCR hosted the U.S. Women’s Open, won by Jane Geddes who is expected to be in the field come August. Annika Sorenstam is the defending champion and is also expected to play at NCR.

The club hosted the U.S. Senior Open for the men in 2005 won by Alan Doyle. Ray Floyd won the 51st PGA Championship in 1969 in the clubs first major championship. Spider Miller won the USGA Mid-Amateur in 1998.

The new practice range for NCR.

Among the preparations getting done for the U.S. Senior Women’s Open and beyond, is a new full scale practice and teaching area.

“We’re very excited about the new practice facility,” says general manager/coo Jeff Grant. “The new building will have several hitting bays with trackman and our members should enjoy it, along with the women in the open field.”

Grant also spoke to the fire in the clubhouse three years ago. “The fire was noticed by an employee still on property working late in the day,” says Grant. “But while there was not much structural damage, it took some time to redo the area’s that had suffered smoke damage.”

The area affected by the fire was redone, and that small section was added to that end of the clubhouse. The area now fits right in with the rest of the original part of the clubhouse structure.

NCR’s Marissa Wenzler won the 2021 WWGA Amateur at Park Ridge CC in Illinois.

Grant says the club is proud of two local golfers with NCR ties that played great amateur golf last summer. Austin Greaser an area resident who has played at NCR over his junior years, advanced to the finals of the 2021 U.S. Amateur at Oakmont. While Marissa Wenzler whose family belongs to the club, won the 2021 Women’s Western Golf Association (WWGA) Amateur Championship. Wenzler went on to survive an 11 for 2 playoff to advance to the match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur. Wenzler then won her first match against the medalist the next morning, before losing in the Round of 32.

While the U.S. Senior Women’s Open is the next chapter in the clubs history, the clubs full history on it’s current site dates back to 1954. But NCR President Stanley Allyn wanted to follow in the footsteps of NCR founder John H. Patterson, and make sure that NCR provided recreational facilities for it’s employees.

The par 4, 3rd hole on NCR South doglegs right from an elevated tee box to an uphill green.

NCR’s two courses are both designed by Dick Wilson. Wilson’s list of other top designs includes Bay Hill, Cog Hill, Doral and Pine Tree. But the NCR property that makes up the two courses is extremely different.

The South Course that will host the Senior Women’s Open, has rolling hills and the holes run between a large amount of trees. From the back tee’s the South plays to a yardage of 7,108 yards.

But the North Course is par of 70 and the yardage tops out at 6,828. the North Course is a prairie links style course, on a flatter part of the clubs 350 acres with a far fewer amount of trees.

The par 5, sixth hole is the second of back-to-back par 5’s on the South Course. After a downhill tee shot, the second shot is risk-reward to an elevated green. For those golfers trying to get home in two shots.

While the current practice range is under construction, members and guest are using the state-of-the-art short game practice area, created in 2016 by the Hurdzan Design firm.

The short game area was built on six undeveloped acres on the property. it offers several practice target greens, bunkers and chipping area’s.

Inside the clubhouse is a golf studio equipped with a Tru-Golf simulator. This allows members the choice of 85 different championship courses, and 30 different varieties of play. PGA member Rob Karnes is NCR’s Director of Golf, and is the host professional for the senior women’s open.

PART 2-Tour Edge Golf Launches the 722 Series of Clubs-Both C and E.

The NEW Tour Edge C Ti-Utility Iron. Photo’s courtesy of Tour Edge Golf.

TOUR EDGE GOLF CONTINUES to produce all-around better golf clubs at a record pace.

The roll-outs with new and improved product are matched by few companies in the golf equipment industry.

But the latest release in the past week, is the largest in the companies history. But unlike many golf equipment companies who call Southern California home. Tour Edge is located in Batavia, a Western Suburban area of Chicago.

Because of major upgrades to the equipment it’s now producing. Tour Edge has set up shop on the PGA Champions Tour, and it’s making an impact all through the players who make up the tour. Starting right at the top with 2021 Schwab Cup winner Bernhard Langer. But Tour Edge clubs have made their way into a few golf bags on the PGA Tour as well.

Tour Edge 722 C and E series Irons NOW available for pre-order. But available for purchase on March 5th.

Before the 722 Series was even in the eyes of the public golfer, Tour Edge started having record days last fall.

Because one-day sales records kept getting broken, says Tour Edge Vice President or Marketing Jon Claffey.

But don’t be fooled that Tour Edge clubs are just for players over 50, they are helping players of all ages be better golfers. During times where everything is getting more expensive, Tour Edge has remained a leader in keeping it’s price point to level where more golfers can afford to purchase new clubs.  With club assembly in Batavia, it’s likely your clubs will end up on your door step within a few days of making your purchase.

Tour Edge 722 E Series Iron.

So now comes the question, are you a C Series player or an E Series player.

Both the Extreme (E) and Competition (C) come complete with new technologies and set up. These will produce different characteristics which target a certain player looking for a different set of performance qualities.

“We’ve made the tour-popular C722 Iron 15% smaller than the previous iteration with a thinner top line and shorter blade length. While raising the launch profile and expanding the sweet spot on the E722 Iron,” said Tour Edge Founder and President David Glod. “With the new C722 Ti-Utility, we’ve taken one of the most played utility irons on the PGA Tour Champions. We’ve thinned the top line and now added some adjustability. In addition to increasing ball speed to make this one of the fastest utilities you will find anywhere.”

ARE YOU AN E? The 722E Series is an extreme distance and forgiveness Iron. The technology includes Tour Edge’s VIBCOR technology and the Diamond Face VFT technology that gives these irons incredible power and feel. More offset and higher launch angles, that produces extreme distance through stronger lofts in each iron.

RETAIL PRICING is $114.99 in graphite/$799.99 for a 7-piece set. $99.99 each in steel/ with a $699.99 7-piece set in steel. 722 E series are available in both RH-LH lofts.

Illinois Golf Hall of Fame Inductee and golf writer Len Ziehm has Tour Edge clubs in his bag.

ARE YOU A C? The 722C Series Irons are a player’s distance Iron, that includes Tour Edge’s VIBCOR technology and the Diamond Face VFT technology.

722C is a 15% smaller clubhead than past iteration with a blade that’s shorter, and comes with a thinner topline. The more classic shape of the C722 features a more traditional lofting-from iron to iron.

722C uses a Military-Grade Maraging Steel Face that is plasma welded onto the stainless steel body.

But like the 722E Series, the 722C Series has SpeedTested shafts to the proper custom shaft match for each pairing in every flex. 722C Series are available in Right-Handed Lofts that range from a 3-iron/19 up to an AW/49 degrees.

RETAIL PRICE $144.99 each in graphite /$999.99 for a 7-piece set. $129.99 each in steel /$899.99 for a 7-piece set.

THE NEW C722 Ti-Utility Iron the perfect long iron replacement club for players in need of faster ball speeds, and lower spin. Comes with a Titanium L-CUP Face brazed into a 431 stainless steel body, and a 10 gram adjustable weight. Ti-Utility is available in Right-Handed lofts 2/17 degrees, 3/19 degrees, 4/22 degrees, 5/25 degrees. Retail price is $199.99.

But you can learn more about the new Tour Edge 722 C and E series clubs at TourEdge.com.

TITLEIST IMPROVES & INTRODUCES NEW GOLF BALLS

THE MISTWOOD GOLF DOME & MCWETHY’S TAVERN ARE OPEN TODAY. So have a Happy Valentines Day. So play some golf, and enjoy dinner with your Valentine all in one day. The Mistwood Golf Dome on Rt. 53 in Bolingbrook call (630)-739-7600 or a good dinner in McWethy’s Tavern on Renwick Road-Romeoville (815)-254-7001 HVD.

THE NEW Titleist Velocity Golf Ball.

THE NEWLY redone Titleist Velocity Golf Ball now has an increased speed, and a higher ball flight for golfers in need of more distance.

Because of the new higher compression core and reformulated cover combination, Velocity delivers like never before.

“This golf ball is fun for our team,” said Frederick Waddell, Director of Golf Ball Product Management, Titleist. “We’re designing for a golfer looking for distance. So this allows us to be singularly focused on speed. But we were able to achieve the performance goals of a longer driver and iron distance while maintaining it’s high ball flight and greenside playability through new and reformulated core and cover technology.”

The new Velocity ($29.99 MAP) is in golf shops since Feb. 4, 2022 in white color only #1-4. But the three Matte colors, Orange, Green and Blue will not be available until October of this year. The dimple pattern sits at a 350 Octahedral dimple design.

The NEW Titleist TruFeel Golf Ball.

TITLEIST HAS announced the new TruFeel golf ball, now redesigned for more distance and better greenside feel.

“The TruFeel golfer is focused on long and soft. But seeks overall performance,” said Frederick Waddell, Director of Golf Ball Product Management, Titleist. “That is where TruFeel stands out in it’s category. So the golfer doesn’t have to sacrifice performance and can trust the quality and consistency of Titleist.”

“The new 1.600″ core is large for a soft golf ball,” said Mike Madson, Director of Aerodynamics and Research Engineering, Titleist. “Because adding more fast rubber to the golf ball, we add more speed for distance. But we also needed to balance the increased core size by reformulating a slightly thinner cover.”

The new TruFeel ball has 376 dimple pattern. In addition, the TruFeel ball will continue to utilize an alignment aid-type mark. So golfers do not have to mark their ball with a line on the side.

TruFeel (white color & high optic yellow) balls ($24.99/dozen MAP) are in golf shops as of February 4th. With Matte Red colored balls available October 1st of 2022.

***PART 1 OF 2 FROM TOUR EDGE GOLF***

Tour Edge Golf is announcing it’s biggest club launch in company history. The Exotics 722 Series. Part 1 are the Woods. But Part 2 coming soon, will be the Irons.

The Tour Edge 722 Series drivers. Photo’s courtesy of Tour Edge Golf.

TOUR EDGE based in West Suburban Batavia IL., has announced the largest club launch in company history.

The new 722 Series that comes in multiple designs. But with the creation of the E722 and the C722 Series, Tour Edge has designed two separate clubs across the board.

So brand new is a Ti-Utility Iron on the C722 side.

But both ranges have new technologies that create different playing characteristics, for specific players.

So are you a “Ridgeback”, “RyzerSole” or “Diamond Face” player ?

“This approach that we first launched with Hot Launch has been extremely beneficial to custom fittings. Because it covers the entire matrix of different golfers, swing types and the player preferences that exist,” said Tour Edge founder and President David Glod.

“The Competition Spec player wants more adjustability and higher-grade materials that produce hotter and lower spinning flights. But the Extreme Spec player wants high M.O.I. for increased accuracy, ease of launch and overall playability. So we now have that distinction in every product in the 722 series,” added Glod.

The Tour Edge C & E fairway woods.

These C & E 722 series clubs are available for purchase on March 5th of 2022.

The E Series is a 460cc profile designed for maximum forgiveness and takes M.O.I. to a new extreme. E722 adds a boosting 30-gram back weight that will produce higher launch angles and more spin. Because of the 34% increase on carbon fiber, the new diamond face VFT design is thinner and extends further out to the heel and toe. So it adds forgiveness on mishits.

RH-Loft 9.5-10.5, 12 degree. LH-loft 10.5. Retail $399.99

THE C-SERIES 722 is a smaller 445cc profile with a deeper face, created for the competitive player. But the two-tier front/back weighting system allows for an industry-leading M.O.I. and spin manipulation.

C-722 Series carries a deeper face, and a more compact head with minimal offset design. But the Ridgeback rail on the sole of the clubhead brings ultimate power and feel. The adjustable Hosel allows golfers to adjust +/- 2 degrees.

The C-722 Series comes in 9.5 and 10.5 RH, and 10.5 LH. Retail price is $429.99.

722-ESeries Fairway metals with a new Maraging Steel face brings you extra power off the face at impact. RH fairway lofts are 3/13, 3/15, 3/16.5 degrees. 5/18, and 7-wood at 21 degrees. LH 3/15 and 5/18 degrees. The retail price comes in at $249.99.

722-C Series fairway metals are available for RH golfers only 3/13, 3/15, 5/18 degrees. The retail price is $299.99

The new Tour Edge 722E and 722C Series Hybrids.

Tour Edge has created new Exotics in it’s Hybrid line. But they are complete with the new RyzerSole, Diamond Face VFT.

E722 Hybrid Series with a larger footprint for Max M.O.I., is created for extreme forgiveness and distance properties.

The RyzerSole sole rail design allows for a super-low and forward CG. But will produce high-launching shots with low-spin rates with maximum ball speed off the club face.

There is an adjustable 10-gram weight at the trailing edge of the sole of the clubhead. The new diamond face has 41 diamond shapes that comprise seven different thicknesses.

Lofts for 722E Series are RH 2/17, 3/19, 4/22 and 5/25 degrees. LH at 3/19 Retail price is $229.99. The 722C Series is RH 2/17, 3/19, 4/21 and 5/23 degrees. But with a retail price of $249.99.

So for more explanation on the differences between the 722C and the 722E Series clubs, and the latest technology used please visit TourEdge.com. See the clubs that are taking the PGA Champions Tour by storm, starting with 2021 Schwab Cup Champion Bernhard Langer. Because the 2022 PGA Champions Tour gets underway this week in Naples Florida, at the 35th annual Chubb Classic.

WHAT A WEEKEND!

THE SUPER BOWL and wild times at the Waste Management PGA Tour event.

Because if you make a Hole-In-One a beer shower could break out-with flying cans everywhere.

But golf is a sport that honors it’s history and traditions, and at the WM, it looks like their is a new tradition for aces on the 16th hole.

Congrats to former Evans Scholars Invitational champion at the Glen Club Scottie Scheffler on winning his first PGA Tour event on the third hole in a playoff.

THE PGA SHOW while both myself and podcast partner Len Ziehm have been supportive of this years PGA Merchandise Show, it’s come out that at least one vendor feels the same way.

John Iacono founder of the Oak Brook Terrace based Zero Friction Golf, has called the show a great success for his company.

“It was an amazing show for us. We met and exceeded our goals,” said Iacono. “The three new products received rave reviews from buyers and the golf media. We felt like it was important to support the industry by being here and it proved very worth while.”

ANOTHER SHOW NOTE-EZ-GO golf carts is switching to ELiTE Lithium in it’s vehicles. So if your interested in learning more about the new wave of golf carts, for your golf course or to have one for personal use in your community. Learn more at EZGO.com.

THIS WEEK THE PGA CHAMPIONS TOUR gets rolling for 2022 with the CHUBB Classic in Naples Florida. Several World Golf Hall of Famers are in the field for the 35th anniversary of the tournament. Follow the action on the Golf Channel in the week ahead. Because some of the players are sponsored by west suburban based Tour Edge Golf, Chicago area golf fans can get a rooting interest.

You can play the indoor version of the Schaumburg Golf Club every day. So sign up today by calling the Schaumburg Golf Club at (847)-885-9000, while you ate there visit chandlers Chophouse and the pro shop for all your golf supply needs.

THE EPSON TOUR the former Symetra Tour has a new name, and it should be good for women’s golf. The LPGA Tour and Epson America Inc. have completed a new five-year deal for naming rights of the women’s developmental tour.

This change takes effect immediately and runs through the 2026 calendar year. At the end of the year, 10 players will earn their LPGA Tour cards. The entrance fees for players will decrease, and the purse minimum will rise to at least $200,000 per week.

You can learn more at EpsonTour.com and follow the tour on social media platforms such as Facebook-Twitter and Instagram.

BUT BETTER NEWS is that the French Lick Resort will host the French Lick Resort Charity Classic from August 1-7 on the Pete Dye Golf Course at the resort. The Dye Course is the former home of the Senior LPGA Championship. But better news for the Epson Tour players, is the Charity Classic will have the largest purse on tour at $335,000.

“French Lick Resort has enjoyed hosting the Epson Tour since 2017, and we are proud to lead the way in elevating this tournament and tour in support of these aspiring LPGA Tour platers,” said Dave Harner, Director of Golf at the French Lick Resort.

Learn more about the championship at FrenchLick.com.

FINALLY it appears that Luke Donald could be selected as captain for the 2023 European Ryder Cup team in Italy. I support that decision.

LAST WEEK I arrived back in the home office. So over the next couple weeks there will be plenty of stories from the PGA Show. But even more from great travel destinations like Innisbrook, Reynolds Lake Oconee, Pinehurst and Ross Resorts in Southern Pines NC.
