Stanford was a seven time winner on the LPGA Tour.

Angela Stanford has been named 2026 Team USA Captain for the Solheim Cup.

But 2026 will be Stanford’s first Solheim Cup as team captain.

“I’m extremely grateful to be named American captain for the Solheim Cup. I’ve always believed that I represent more than myself on the LPGA Tour.  So there is no greater honor than representing your country,” said Stanford. “I consider this the pinnacle of my career, and I’m looking forward to leading our players to the Netherlands in 2026.”

Time to get your shoes on and get over to the Mistwood Golf Dome. Mistwood Golf Course plans to open on April 3rd. So until then Mistwoodgolfdome.com (630)-739-7600.

“Angela Stanford will certainly make a wonderful captain for the U.S. Team at the 2026 Solheim Cup,” said Interim LPGA Commissioner Liz Moore. “Angela has always been a spark on and off the golf course, a true leader and dedicated partner to her teammates. It is now her time to take the helm of the U.S. Team, and I have no doubt that she will lead her squad to a successful week in the Netherlands.

Stanford retired from the LPGA Tour in 2024, after 23 years on tour. So her seven wins include one major the 2018 Amundi Evian Championship. But Stanford has also won the 2023 and 2024 Senior LPGA Championships.

Stanford’s streak of 98 consecutive majors played in, is the second longest streak in professional golf trailing only Jack Nicklaus. In the 2015 Solheim Cup Stanford earned the cup clinching point with a 2&1 win over Suzanne Petersen.
