There is no secret that Mickelson will need a top finish this week, if he is to move on to the Tour Championship in Atlanta next week.

Rory McIlroy tells the Gog Blog he is ready to win again, and this week at the BMW Championship. With Wanamaker Trophy and Claret Jug.
Rory McIlroy had to race to get into this weeks BMW Championship. Those private jets coming out of the Bahama’s, can’t always get to Lake Forest when you want them to.
McIlroy rolled into another Chicago course, this time Conway Farms, about as late as he was for his time tee at Medinah at the Ryder Cup.
But the PGA Tour backed up his pro-am tee time 2 hours, and his press conference about 8 hours, and at the end of the day all was well.
McIlroy admits all is well enough with his ankle to golf at 100%, but overall it’s not quite 100% yet, but it’s getting there. As for picking him to win this week, why not he thinks he is ready to win again. But some other top players might have something to say about that.

Rickie Fowler is ready to win again, this time in the BMW Championship.
Rickie Fowler comes into the BMW Championship, rested after a week off and with a game that’s locked in after winning in Boston.
He can basically wrap up being the Fed Ex Cup champion with a win this week, and avoid being down around #30 of 30 next week in Atlanta.
For the first time he will be paired with both Jordan Spieth, and Jason Day as the power group of this weeks BMW Championship.
Fowler is not new to Conway Farms, as a junior golfer, he played the Canon Cup here as part of a AJGA event.
I spite of being on a roll, he says he didn’t mind having a week off last week. Fowler says Conway Farms is in great shape, and staying out of the rough will be a big help.

Jason Day and Jerry Kelly were the first two players in. But when the week is over, Spieth doesn’t plan to be #3, he says he is ready to go and his game is in a good place.
When asked about equipment changes that might have led to him missing the cut in the first two Fed Ex Cup events of the series, Spieth said his equipment is not a problem, he just had a couple of bad weeks. Something he does not expect this week, as he tried to get some Fed Ex Cup points that he says he needs.

What type of Callaway MD3 wedge is right for you.
Follow just two easy steps in the fitting process to decide which wedges you need.
First determine the wedge set make up.
You should decide how many wedges you want to play your round with. Look at the highest lofted wedge in your set of clubs. This club could be a pitching wedge, or it could be a gap a wedge. The add wedges with loft of 4 to 6 degrees, and plan on having 10-15 yards of distance between wedges on full shots.
Second step is to, Identify the correct grind for each wedge. That is done by determining the shots a player likes to hit with each wedge, with an open face, or with a square face. Then determine what conditions the player will encounter on the course the most often. Then you must determine the players attack angle, by looking at the divot, or lack of it.

The BMW Championship made it official what many people had known for months already. Where the championship is going the next four years.
2016 The Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel Indiana, the championship was played there in 2012, and won by Rory McIlroy.

2019 The Medinah Country Club in Medinah Illinois, theBMW’s first visit to Medinah, last known for hosting a very successful 2012 Ryder Cup.
Vince Pellegrino is the WGA’s Sr. VP of Tournaments.
“Each of these storied venues enjoys a rich history of hosting top tier golf championships,” said Vince Pellegrino, Senior Vice President of Tournaments for the Western Golf Association. “We would like to thank the members at Crooked Stick, Conway Farms, Aronimink and Medinah for so warmly embracing the BMW Championship. We look forward to working with them to stage a series of world-class events.”
The BMW Championship was first played in 1899 and was conducted by the Western Golf Association. The championship was known as the Western Open through 2006, when BMW came on board as a new title sponsor. Since 2007 BMW and the championship have donated over $19.6 million dollars to the Evans Scholars Foundation.
The BMW has visited other championship venues in recent years, including Bellerive Country Club in Missouri in 2008, Cherry Hills near Denver in 2014 and Cog Hill in Lemont in 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011.
Aronimink will host the BMW Championship in 2018.
“We recall with fondness the 2012 BMW Championship and very much look forward to the world’s top professional golfers returning to Crooked Stick in 2016,” said club president Kent Frandsen.
The club was founded in 1964 and was designed by Pete Dye. Today the course plays at 7,516 yards from the back tees.

The Chicago Golf Scene will have a new look in 2016, it’s all about the women now, they are coming to town, and they are taking over.
To golfers and golf fans, especially you men, this is not a bad thing, Chicago could do worse, much worse. We could have nothing, but the women will be coming to town, and they can flat out play. Women’s golf has never been in a better place around the world, now they will soon be in a great place, Chicago.
It seems that the people who run women’s golf, realize that this nations second biggest market is there for the taking, and they are taking it, and taking over.
Spain’s Belen Mozo (L) and Australia’s Minjee Lee (R) are ready to battle for the Crown at Rich Harvest Farms in 2016.
In men’s golf the PGA Tour doesn’t come around every year anymore, the USGA doesn’t have anything booked in the Chicago area through 2018. The PGA doesn’t have anything here for a few more years as well.
While the USGA seems to be looking for invitations for courses around the Chicago area, the PGA might be thinking ahead in awarding two, LPGA KPMG PGA championships, here in the Windy City.
In seems strange that some golf organizations continue to over-use the overloaded New York and Northeastern area courses, or the west coast in drought stricken California. Meanwhile the Midwest and the Chicago area, are a goldmine waiting to happen. The PGA is still counting all the money it made, at the best financial and profitable Ryder Cup ever, Medinah in 2012.
The question is being raised why clubs like Olympia Fields in 2017 and Kemper Lakes in 2018, would host a women’s golf event, even a major in the first place. The answer is believed to be that both courses, will get a PGA Championship down the road for doing so.
At this time, it appears that both clubs have not been promised a Men’s PGA Championship down the road. In fact there might be other steps to take, before they would get a Men’s PGA Championship.
The PGA of America loves Harbor Shores for it’s Senior PGA Championship, but they can’t play it there every year. Then as good as French Lick Resort was this year, the PGA would still like to be in a bigger market, with the potential to draw more fans than were in attendance on the Pete Dye Course at FLR.
It’s likely that both Olympia Fields and Kemper Lakes, will have to host another PGA event like a Sr. PGA and or a PPC (Professional Players Championship-The club pro championship) before the PGA Championship is on the table. Olympia Fields with two courses is a perfect PPC site, since the field is about the size of the recent U.S. Amateur. While Kemper Lakes would give some players who played in the 1989 PGA at Kemper Lakes, another shot at winning a PGA Championship in Lake County.
The PGA Cup which is another nice tournament (the club pro version of the Ryder Cup), would be a nice fit at either one of the courses.
But what can both clubs expect in hosting the ladies first. Apparently a profitable tournament.
In a letter to it’s members from the club president and board. Olympia Fields told it’s members that the interruption of play will be limited. That there would be no extra assessment to the membership, and that the tournament would break even at worst, and likely make a profit.
Olympia Fields sees that to remain relevant in the world of golf, and re-institute their relationship with the PGA of America, and gain national exposure in the recruitment of new members both local and national, publicity like this you just can’t pass up. National TV on all four days from the Golf Channel and NBC. The club says it wants to be a leader in promoting more women, to get involved playing golf.
Why does the Chicago golf market, seem to be needing a shot in the arm via women’s golf. Is it the state of politics in Illinois, that has both the population and businesses leaving in droves.
If that is playing a role, and it could be. Then Governor Bruce Rauner, Democratic majority leader Michael Madigan, and City of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, had better get some skin in this skins game, to draw in the events that bring people, business and money to the Land-of-Lincoln. Senators Mark Kirk and Dick Durbin better be listening as well.
In 2016 women’s golf will make a big splash, even without the KPMG PGA events. The UL International Crown arrives first in Mid-July in Sugar Grove at Rich Harvest Farms, followed by the Illinois Women’s Open at Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville, that will finally have it’s 5 year, three phase renovation plan complete. The new clubhouse will be open, and owner Jim McWethy will be ready to showcase the entire facility, to what’s expected to be a large field.
The Woman’s Western Golf Association (WWGA) might even be ready to bring it’s national amateur championships back to Chicago, after a few years out of town.
WHAT HAPPEN’S AFTER 2018 YOU ASK ?
Well Jerry Rich is hopeful that the UL International Crown will be returning in 2020 to Rich Harvest Farms, if it isn’t. Don’t be surprised to see him on the market looking for a U.S. Women’s Open or taking the new U.S. Sr. Women’s Open that tee’s off starting in 2018. Rich is already hosting the Men’s and Women’s NCAA National Championship in 2017. I expect women’s golf to have a fine future at RHF, Crown or no Crown.
It appears that a few other local clubs might be ready to take a run at a Women’s Open or Sr. Women’s Open, including the Merit Club that hosted the U.S. Women’s Open in 2000 or Cog Hill.
While there are still questions looming over men’s golf tournaments in Chicago, it seems like the ladies are moving and taking over. Hey the door was “open”, and they walked through it. RS

The Gog Blog by Rory Spears, Editor and Director of Content. Follow Rory on Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter @GogBlogGuy. On Bandon Dunes Old Macdonald Golf Course.
The Gog Blog received this report regarding the Gorse fire that shut down part of the famous Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on Labor Day Monday.
The summer has been very dry in the Bandon area, and Gorse that can be flammable caught fire on a hot day.
The fire started on the far north end of the property, just past Old Macdonald and up near the famed Sheep Ranch. The fire burned between 30 and 40 acres, and while it came close to the Old Macdonald course, it did not actually burn any part of the course.
Because of how fast the fire grew and moved at one-time, first Old Macdonald and then the Pacific Dunes golf course were evacuated as a precaution. The sprinklers were turned on at both courses, again as a precautionary move by the resort. The holes that were the most endangered on Old Macdonald, were 15-18.
Play was not stopped on the Bandon Dunes course, Bandon Trails or the Par-3 Course the Preserve.
The Par 3, Preserve Golf Course at Bandon Dunes.
Play was resumed on Pacific Dunes Tuesday morning, since the smoke that had made it to that area had dissipated. Play will resume at Old Macdonald on Wednesday.
The local fire department was alerted to a fire around 2 PM local time On Monday, and reportedly had the fire contained within 45-50 minutes.
When it was all over, there was no damage to any of the golf holes or structures at Bandon Dunes. All operations and courses will be running as normal on Wednesday. One report says the fire was started with human involvement, but not intentionally or for malicious purposes.
For more information on visiting the resort see Bandondunesgolf.com.
