John Deere Classic Tournament Director Clair Peterson, spoke with the media this week-via Zoom. Screen shot picture by Rory Spears.
THE JOHN DEERE CLASSIC is almost back. Because tournament week is coming back July 6-11, at TPC Deere Run in Silvis Illinois.
So this past week the tournament held it’s second Zoom call with media members.
The purpose was to announce the classic’s sponsors exemptions, and some of the rules for championship week.
SO EARNING EXMEPTIONS for this years JDC.
MICHAEL FEAGLES 23, of Scottsdale Arizona. Feagles is now a graduate of the University of Illinois. Feagles helped the Illini win the Big Ten Conference Championship, and reach the final 8 at the NCAA Championships.
TRIPP KINNEY 23, of Waukee Iowa. The Iowa State graduate, played more rounds for the Cyclones, than any other player in school history.
LUKE KLUVER 21, Norfolk Nebraska. Kluver is currently a junior at Kansas. Kluver made it into the U.S. Open sectional qualifying.
WILLIE MACK 32, has won an estimated 65 times on various mini-tours. But his actions to save his clubs from a burning car before it exploded, made him an internet star. Mack played in two west coast PGA Tour events earlier this year.
DAVID PERKINS 23, of Peoria Illinois. Perkins the Illinois State alum, reportedly holds the course record at the ISU D.A. Weibring Golf Course. Perkins got support for this exemption from Weibring, the TPC Deere Run course designer himself.
ALEX SCHAAKE 23, Omaha Nebraska. The Iowa Hawkeye graduate was a two-time Big Ten Golfer of the Year. Schaake won the 2019-2021 Hawkeye Invitational.
But for more information on how the exemption process works, or worked this year. Listen to the recent media session below. Because Covid-19 protocols are still affecting the tournament, listen in to the press conference. Because you need to know, before you go.

TICKETS ARE now on sale for the John Deere Classic coming up July 8-11. But for more information see JohnDeereClassic.com.
THE ILLINOIS PGA SECTION wins the 59th Radix Cup at the Oak Park Country Club in River Grove, over the Chicago District Amateur Team (CDGA) by a score of 11 to 7. _____________________________________________________________________
THE GOG BLOG by RORY SPEARS, Director of Content and Creation for Golfers on Golf.
THE RADIX CUP & the Radix Cup players glassware (L)-Scorecard from Oak Park CC.
THE ILLINOIS PGA PROFESSIONALS have retained the cup. The Radix Cup that is, with a 11-7 victory over the Chicago District Golf Associations amateur team.
The Radix Cup is named in honor of the late Harry Radix and Oak Park member, and recent inductee into the Illinois Golf Hall of Fame. But the day started slowly for both teams. Because just before the start of play. A 45 minute lightning delay hung over the historic Donald Ross designed Oak Park Country Club.
But when all six of the matches were complete. The Illinois PGA professionals had increased their lead in the all-time series to 36-20-2.
” I can’t give enough credit to our professionals. They dug deep on the finishing holes of the front nine to get back into it,” said team captain Chris Gumbach (River Forest Country Club). ” But then on the back nine, they turned the matches in our favor, which lead to victory today.”
OAK PARK host golf professional Carson Solien helped earn 2.5 points out of a possible 3, with partner Jim Billiter (Ivanhoe Club). ” It’s always a treat to have my fellow professionals out for this event and host some great amateur players here at Oak Park Country Club” said Solien. “So it’s nice to have all the guys out to show them how great our course is.”
Because there is a possible 3 points per team in each match, both teams can score points. So there is one point available for each nine holes of play. But then another point for winning the entire match.
The match final results were as follows.
MATCH 1, Tied between Frank Hohenadel and fellow Mistwood Golf Club professional Andy Mickelson, against James Morton and Tim Sheppard. 1 1/2 to 1 1/2
MATCH 2 Won by IPGA professionals Curtis Malm (White Eagle) and Travis Johns (Medinah) over John Ramsey and Chadd Slutzky 2 1/2 to 1/2
MATCH 3 Won by CDGA Amateurs Jordan Less and Charlie Nikitas. Over Garrett Chaussard (Skokie CC) and Jeff Kellen (Butler National) 2.1/2 to 1/2.
MATCH 4 Tied between professionals Andrew Godfrey (White Pines GC) and Tim Streng, and Brian Hickey and Mike McCormick. 1 1/2 to 1 1/2.
MATCH 5 Won by CDGA Amateurs Tommy Dunsire and Ethan Farnam. Over Brian Carroll and Chris Green 2 and 1.
MATCH 6 Won by IPGA Professionals Jim Billiter and Carson Solien over CDGA Amateurs Mike Henry and Logan Stauffer 2 and 1.
So with the win the Illinois PGA professionals kept the Radix Cup, won back in 2019. Because the Radix Cup was not held in 2020, due to Covid-19. But over the last 18 years, each side has now won the cup nine times.

ALTWELL PRODUCTS-CBD Health and Wellness options.
PRODUCT Review for Altwell Products by RORY SPEARS.
So when you see U.S. Open players this week taking a spray to their mouth, or chewing on gummies.
It’s likely to be some type of CBD product, which is a quick growing health product for golfers. Both and off the professional tours.
I recently had the chance to try a newer line of CBD products. But from a company not new to the health and wellness industry.
Altwell CBD products are from the same family that created the popular energy drink, Muscle Milk. Something I drink every day and recommend. Because all three flavors including Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry’s N’Creme are very good.
The Altwell Gummies.
The Altwell Products I got to test came in lemon tasting flavors. But Tropical and Yuzu flavors were part of the great tasting gummies I received.
With gummies you should be prepared to enjoy a better nights sleep. Which is exactly what I got.
Because whether it was the gummies, the Tincture, or the softgells, during the time I was testing these products I enjoyed a deeper more relaxing sleep. But if there was a minor drawback, it would be that I was in no hurry to get out of bed in the morning, because I was so relaxed.
Altwell Lemon-flavored tincture.
TINCTURE WHILE it might be helpful for your body, it doesn’t always taste very good when you squirt it under your tongue.
Which is why more companies that create CDB products, are working hard to create better tasting Tincture. So the Lemon flavored Tincture I tried, was the best tasting Tincture I have tried yet.
I tested the Balance Soft Gels and they were helpful in getting the day going. Mix them with Muscle Milk for energy you can use as you work into your agenda for the day.
THE ALTWELL Sports Stick with CBD was the one product that did not help me as much as I hoped it would. But while it did provide some relief after a long work out on the driving range. I had hoped for better. I did have more success with other CBD balms I had used on arms and shoulders.
But do remember that your body will react to these types of products differently. From great success to no effect. Brand to brand you could feel a different level of success.
While looking at the Altwell products website, I found a plant-based protein mix that you can add to your shakes. I didn’t not get to sample that mix. But I hope to in the future. When you order CBD products from Altwell, you have options on whether to pick products for Balance or for Better Sleep. Decide what your needs are before you order.
The website has an area that is great for explaining any questions you might have, and you should research if your new to ordering these types of products.
Learn more at Altwell.com and begin to make your body feel better, during the day, or when you go to sleep at night.
OPENING SOON ! THE NEW CLUBHOUSE at the Preserve at Oak Meadows in Addison. So follow Dupagegolf.com for details on opening day. The golf course is open. _____________________________________________________________________
IT’S Almost time for a cold one at the Preserve at Oak Meadows Club House-that will open soon. The Gog Blog by Rory Spears, Director of Content and creation for Golfers on Golf. Follow Rory on Twitter @GogBlogGuy or connect on LinkedIn/Facebook/Instagram.
WHAT A DAY yesterday at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, for the final round of the Arnold Palmer Cup.
BECAUSE TEAM USA came up with a 33-27 win over the International Team. But both teams played some great golf.
So for Team USA, it’s some good payback for the blasting they took, at the hands of The International Team last year.
IT’S THE BEST GOLF EVENT that almost nobody saw. Because of the poor Covid restrictions that were placed on the event, that kept most of the fans away. The restrictions were basically lifted at the very last minute, when it was really too late to lift them.
OR MAYBE, should have at least a dozen or more players have lifted their arm and got a vaccination before coming to town. So Covid-19 and fans getting close to players, wasn’t a factor that TPC organizers would not have to had to, worry about.
CONGRATS to the two MVP’s from Team USA. First to Brook Matthews from Arkansas, Matthews the University of Arkansas women’s golf team member, earned an exemption into the Evian Championship. But even more-so to Sam Bennett from Texas and member of the Texas-Am golf team.
Because Bennett made the trip north from his small home town of Madisonville Texas, getting on the plane only hours after his father passed away. Bennett telling me that only after his entire family told him go play, and that’s what his dad would have wanted, Bennett did just that. His courage and play earned him a trip to the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill next March. Bennett will return to Illinois next month to play in the Western Amateur at The Glen View Club. He made final 8 in the Western Amateur last year at Crooked Stick, and is looking to go further this year.
CLICK HERE TO HEAR my interviews with Brooke Matthews and Sam Bennett.
Rich Harvest Farms owner Jerry Rich with the Arnold Palmer Cup.
IN 2015 Rich Harvest Farms hosted The Palmer Cup.
But this year, The Arnold Palmer Cup as it’s now called made it’s second trip to Rich Harvest Farms.
SO… could there be a third trip to Rich Harvest Farms for the APC.
ACTUALLY YES !, the next APC that has an open date is 2026. Jerry Rich tells me he is open to hosting again in 2026. That would make quite a year here in town. The best amateur players here in June, the best professionals here in September when Medinah Country Club host’s the Presidents Cup.
AUTOGRAPH’S AND MEDIA ACCESS. The two area’s that are lacking at sporting events, especially Major League Baseball (MLB) and the PGA Tour.
I’m not going out on a limb here when I say, if there was two things that players or athletes hate the most about their job, it’s signing autographs, and having to deal with a large amount of media.
SO what are two things lagging behind as sports slowly starts to reopen from the Covid-19 pandemic. Media access and signs up saying that players are not allowed to sign autographs. In my opinion this is not a coinsidence. Because with nearly 40,000 a day in Wrigley all weekend long, and the White Sox cleared for next week to have almost as many fans in the stands.
There should be no problem by now speaking with vaccinated reporters. By July 1st the autograph mandate can go as well. Because it’s time to do more than just say on Zoom, how happy you are to have the fans back in the park or on the course.
SO IT’S U.S. Open week-live from Torrey Pines. Who do you like. Bryson ‘The Bomber’ DeChambeau the defending champion, or someone else.
PERSONALLY I took a flyer in Las Vegas back in February on Dustin Johnson, when you could get him at 12-1 odds. DJ plays well in California, so lets see what happens.
WHAT I DO think is that USGA needs to find some different courses for California based U.S. Opens. Sure the ocean alongside the course is nice, looks great on TV as well. But Torrey Pines and Pebble Beach are PGA Tour stops, if you want the U.S. Open on the west coast, there plenty of other places to go than courses used every year as a tour stop. Which is why the Olympic Club works well for a U.S. Open.
NOW HOW BAD will the TV coverage be this week. Maybe Saturday Night Live will come on before the 3rd Round ends on Saturday. Will NBC spend the whole broadcast talking about Tiger Woods, because he won at Torrey in a playoff there 13 years ago. It’s great history yes. But a steady diet of this, is not what the viewers are looking for.
PINE MEADOW in Mundelein hosts the Illinois State Women’s Amateur the next three days. Thursday afternoon Oak Park Country Club hosts the Radix Cup matches-that pit the Illinois PGA professionals vs the Chicago District Golf Associations top amateur players. The Radix Cup is a great 1 day event, and after having to take last year off because of the pandemic. It’s nice to see both of these events return.
THE PRESERVE AT OAK MEADOWS in Addison is getting ready to open it’s new clubhouse. Stay tuned to DuPageGolf.com for details on opening day. But the course is open for play, in addition to Maple Meadows and Green Meadows-come out and golf. _____________________________________________________________________

THE ARNOLD PALMER CUP at Rich Harvest Farms.
THE ARNOLD PALMER CUP heads into it’s final day, with the USA leading the International Team 20-16.
Because rain stopped play yesterday, things wrapped up late. But the play is back on schedule this morning.
NORHTBROOK’S Nick Hardy is flying higher up the leader board in this weeks Korn Ferry Tour stop. Because Hardy shot a 7 under par 64, and sits in 3rd place heading into todays final round.
The future venue in North Charleston will be a similar design as Topgolf Buford (Georgia), which is featured in this photo.
