So do you like to support golf programs, especially junior golf.

Because now there is a great way to get more kids out on the golf course. And get them learning this great sport.

It’s by using Rx.golf, that is now the only prescription discount program, that’s dedicated to supporting junior golf across America.

The new Rx.golf card that’s accepted at over 68,000 pharmacies is helping reduce the growing cost of prescription medications. Plus it donates $1.00 to junior golf for each time used.

Rx.golf offers two options of receiving your card. One is by going online to www.rx.golf and printing out a card, and having it sent to your phone. You can visit www.rxgolf.app and download a web app to your phone. What the app does is to provide a pharmacy price search and digital card all at once.

“By using the Rx.golf card or app, consumers can save up to 87% on most prescription drugs,” said founder and creator Michael Thompson. “The pharmacy price search does all the legwork and finds the lowest prices, no matter where in America you are located at, so you can make smart choices and save money. The free Rx.golf prescription savings card means you haveaccess to lowest price on your prescriptions-either your insurance copay, the pharmacy retail price orthe Rx.golf price.”

Club Champion has started it’s winter promotion. 50% off full bag fittings, 33% off all other fittings through January 31, 2020

Thompson’s Rx.golf program receives an endorsment of support from the recently retired executive director of the Tennessee Golf Association and Tennessee Golf Foundation Dick Horton, who says “junior golf programs create better golfers and better citizens.” Part of the reason the TGA and TGF have partnered with Rx.golf.

Rx.golf can help if you have no prescritpion insurance, or if your stuck with a high deductible. So if your on temporary coverage, Rx.golf could be the plan for you.

Thompson is the managing director of RXVentures in Nashville Tennessee. Previously he was part of production teams, that launched various well known TV programs. Thompson went on to own and operate 15 FOX, or other affiliate stations in the Southeast.

So for more details on this program see www.rx.golf.com.

The new Topgolf in Schaumburg, opens November 15th.

TURN ON THE LIGHTS-THE PARTY HAS STARTED.

Wednesday night the party started at the new Schaumburg Topgolf, that will be managed by GM Brett Hintz. It opens on Friday November 15th.

One only had to be the parking lot, to hear the upbeat music, that brought the energy to this new fun golf venue.

So there is no snoozy or elevator music at Topgolf, there is a feeling of lets get to it. Tasty Blueberry Mush cocktails were flowing, the food was getting sampled, and the golf balls were flying. It was a night where sleet started mixing in the air, with a cross-wind that made hitting the target bays a little bit harder. But you could check your results, as you reviewed your Toptracer screen.

THE TOPGOLF RANGE lights up for opening night in Schaumburg, on the campus of the former Motorola Communications, and now called Motorola Solutions.

Topgolf is not new to the Chicago area. In fact it’s been around for 12 years, in both Wood Dale and Naperville. But that will change according to Topgolf CEO, Dolf Berle.

“Topgolf values the relationships we have built in the Greater Chicago community over the past 12 years,” said Berle. “We look forward to bringing an upgraded and modernized experience to Schaumburg, further connecting the local community in meaningful ways. Our experienced hourly Associates from Wood Dale, will be joining the Topgolf Schaumburg team. They will continue providing the hospitality and service, the community has grown to know and love.”

THE GOG BLOG by RORY SPEARS, Director of Content And Creation, follow Rory on Twitter @GogBlogGuy, Facebook and Linkedin. At the new Topgolf in Schaumburg IL.

Over the next several months, the Wood Dale Park District that is in chagre of the communites recreational facilities, will convert Topgolf Wood Dale into a traditional driving range powered by Topgolf’s Toptracer technology. Toptracer Range gives driving ranges the real-time data to help players at all skill levels improve their game, with the same advanced ball-tracing technology that has revolutionized the way viewers view shots during tournaments on television.

Currently Topgolf has 60+ venues worldwide, and has now announced plans to open more venues through Europe over the next few years.

Click here to listen to our interview with Topgolf Regional Marketing Manager Chelsie Polifka.

The lower deck at Topgolf in Schaumburg.

Because the three level facility comes complete with climate controled hitting bays, it can be used year-round.

The 5,000 sqaure-foot outdoor patio and venue, has plenty of space for corporate and social events. Topgolf is located alongside of Interstate-90 at Meacham Road. And there are over 250 large high-definition flat screen televisions, three bars, and 3,000 square feet of private event space. So while Schaumburg is the newest Chicago area location, it might not be last.

“We have some very elite players in the Illinois Section,” said Carrie Williams, Executive Director of the Illinois PGA Section. “The Player of the Year races are always fun to watch as they unfold throughout the course of the season. Garrett and Roy showcased some great golf this season and performed well at major events. We congratulate both of them on this outstanding achievement.”

Chaussard finsihed in the Top-10 of all 8 events he played in this past season, which included three wins. His biggest victory was going back-to-back in the season’s first IPGA major championship, the Match Play Championship at Kemper Lakes Golf Club. He was T-9th at the Illinois Open and 2nd at the IPGA Section Championship, falling only to final round partner Travis Johns. That second place finish earned him a place in the 53rd PGA (Club) Professional Championship in 2020, at Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin Texas.

Biancalana had four wins in 2019, a second place finish and seven Top-10’s in IPGA Senior tournaments. Biancalana finished second at the IPGA Senior Section Championship, which earned him a place in the 2019 Senior PGA (Club) Professional Championship played at Barton Creek in Texas. His T-22 finish earned him a place in the 2020 Senior PGA Championship, at Harbor Shores Golf Club in Beton Harbor Michigan. His low round of the year in section play, was a 64 at Kishwaukee Country Club. During Senior Stroke Play #4.

Golfers on Golf congratulates both players on their respective seasons. And wishes them well at upcoming IPGA events, and or national events they have qualified to be part of the field.

IT’S NOT OVER, outdoor golf season is still happening. So don’t put the clubs away, at least just yet.

And it was nice to hear from more clubs that are still open in the last 48 hours. I did see quite a few golfers out playing Arlington Lakes today when I drove past. Glendale Lakes had some golfers out on the course as well.

Congratulations goes to IL PGA Section members, Garrett Chaussard of Skokie Country Club, and Roy Biancalana from the St. Andrews Country Club. Chaussard and Biancalana were named IPGA Players of the Year for 2019. Full details to follow this week.

SPEAKING OF THE IPGA, a total of 52 section members combined in two locations to raise over $400,000 in this years Birdies for Charity event September 3rd, at River Forest Country Club in Elmhurst. The nine year total of contributions now total’s $1.96 million dollars.

The charities involved are the Ann & Robert Lurie Childrens Hospital of Chicago, JDRF Illinois Chapter, Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana, Crisis Nursery (Urbana), OSF Childrens Hospital of Illinois in Peoria and the Illinois PGA Foundation. The American Ling Association and the Loyola University Medical Center Burn Unit also received contributions.

Andy Mickelson Director of Golf at the Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville, paced the field with 43 birdies. The CIPGA section was led by Kyle English of Crestwicke CC and Nick Taute of Southside CC with 38 birdies.

The Birdies for Charity event started in 2011, as Medinah CC teaching professional Travis Johns brought the idea with him from Texas. When Johns moved to the Illinois PGA Section. Great job by all the PGA professionals involved. #golfgivesback

WILSON GOLF and the KIDS GOLF FOUNDATION have created a partnership that has Wilson Golf providing clubs at the KGF Clincis this past summer. So it’s nice to see the KGF started by Jerry Rich and Rich Harvest Farms, working with Chicago based Wilson Sporting Goods/Golf, to help young kids pick up the game of golf.

THE PGA HALL OF FAME ceremony tee’s off the start of the meetings, hosted by NBC’s Jimmy Roberts. The following have been named inductees to the PGA of America’s Hall of Fame Class of 2019.

DAVIS LOVE III PGA, Annika Sorenstam PGA/LPGA, Shirley Spork LPGA, Dave Marr II (deceased), Karsten Solheim (deceased), PGA Past President Derek Sprague,PGA. So in addition Barbara Nicklaus will receive the PGA Distinguished Service Award during the PGA of America Hall of Fame banquet. Her husband Jack Nicklaus won the award in 2000. They are second couple to win the award (Mark and Debi Rohlfing.

The PGA Golf Professional of the Year, is Eric Eshleman, PGA, Country Club of Birmingham (Ala.), and the Horton Smith Award will be presented to Todd Sones PGA, of Todd Sones Impact Golf-in Vernon Hills IL.

Former Seven Bridges professional and Kiawah Island Resort president Roger Warren, will receive a Legend of the PGA Award. More details at PGA.org. Golfers on Golf congratulates all the PGA of America award winners.

SPEAKING OF DAVIS LOVE III, his selection to the CBS Sports/Golf broadcasting team, has not been well received. As some of the national critics speak out. So the real question is, will Love III be afraid to speak out. Because when players don’t have their “A” game, he should say so. But will he have a little Johnny Miller or Brandal Chamblee in him. If he doesn’t, he should go back out on the PGA Champions Tour.

THE FALL SEASON OF COLLEGE GOLF is in the books. That would be the record books and not the text books. Because the golf teams are back studying and getting ready to make grades.

So here is our recap of the local college golf scene, with the main focus on the Big Ten.

THE OLYMPIA FIELDS ILLINI Invitational is one of the highlights of the fall season. Schools from across the country look forward to this event, and the schools that don’t have an invite, are working on trying to get one.

ILLINOIS started slowly and after Round 1, was back in 10th place, but rallied over the next two days, to finish fifth. The Illini were lead by Michael Feagles and Bryan Baumgarten with 54 hole scores of 214 (+4). Illinois as a team was (+19), with winning schools Georgia Tech and Baylor tied at (+6). Illinois Coach Mike Small was pleased with the results as the tournament went on but added that, “Illinois needs good scoring each day from more than one player.”

The Illinois men’s team closed out the fall portion of their schedule this past week at Cypress Point, in a Ryder Cup style match play event. Illinois lost to No.3 UCLA in the first match, before defeating two Top 10 ranked teams, California and Alabama.

But prior to the trip west, Illinois was 11th at the Tavistock Invitational in Windemere Florida, and was 7th at the Crooked Stick Invitational hosted by Purdue and Indiana. Michael Feagles and Jerry Ji have lead the Illini those tournaments.

FORMER UW-Madison Badger and former Coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers John Carlson, became the new Director of Golf at Northern Illinois University. Carlson feels that the attractiveness of the Chicagoland area, and having Rich Harvst Farms in Sugar Grove, as the home of the Huskies program, will help recruiting. Rich Harvest Farms owner Jerry Rich, worked besides university officials during the coaching search.

NIU ON COURSE, as the Huskies had some success on the golf course this fall. So for the first time since 2016, the Huskies had a top three finish. After a slow start, NIU rallied for a second placefinish at the Xavier University-Signature Tournament. This came on the heels of a 4th place finish at the Prairie Club Invitational. The Huskies are now ranked 4th in the MAC, but have some work to do if they wish to pull alongside conference leader Kent St.

LADY HUSKIES under Coach Kim Kester closed out the season at the UNLV Las Vegas Showdown. Kester’s team recorded Top 10 finishes at every tournament this fall. Caroline Klemp’s final round 69, helped her to win the Illinois State Redbird Invitational in September.

NORTHWESTERN WRAPPED UP a solid fall on the links with a third place finish at the Crooked Stick Invitational in Carmel Ind., led by David Nyfjall who placed in the top five. The previous week the Cats had a second place finish at the Marquette Invitational at Erin Hills. In 2018 the Cats won the tournament with a -12 score. But this year 13 under par only earned second place. John Driscoll III had a final round 66 to lead NU.

Northwestern-Chicago’s Big Ten Team #GOCATS

But a strong finish helped offset a slow start to the fall, where the Cats had only an 8th place finish at their own Windon Invitational. This year the Windon was hosted by Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, and won by Notre Dame University. The following week, NU was 11th of 15 teams at the Illini Olympia Fields Invitational. Before the Cats started their fall turn around at Erin Hills.

ON THE WOMEN’S SIDE Coach Emily Fletchers team wrapped up the fall season at the Stanford Invitational hosted by Condelezza Rice. The Cats finished 11th, but moved up three spots in the final round. Freshman Irene Kim led the way, with a score of +2 over 54 holes.

AT ILLINOIS COACH RENEE SLOAN’S Illini, hosted their second Illini Women’s Invitational on Course #2, at Medinah in early October.

MEDINAH COUNTRY CLUB-CLUBHOUSE (L) The par 3, 8th hole, on Medinah Course #2. (R).

For the second straight year, Illinois finished in 3rd place. Their three round total score (-4) 860. Sophomore Kornkamol Sukaree led Illinois with a 212 (-4) and she finished in 8th place overall. Senior Tristyn Nowlin had the best final round score for Illinois with a 70 (-2). Nowlin finished in 13th place . Kent State at 853 (-11) won the team title.

JUSTIN WYETH coach at Aurora University, has the school on a roll among the smaller colleges. AU is now ranked 18th and now winning tournaments. Congratulations to Coach Wyeth on moving the team up from being #233 in the nation.

CDGA Players of the year Jordan Less, David Perkins, and in the senior division Tim Sheppard.

JORDAN LESS AND DAVID PERKINS are still tied, so they will share the 2019 Chicago District Golf Association honors for Player of the Year.

Tim Sheppard wins his second consecutive Senior Player of the Year award, after starting and ending the year in strong fashion.

So while fighting for the distinction of winning the Centennial CDGA Amateur Championship, both Less and Perkins were tied after 36 holes at the Glen View Club. Less then won the title on the 37th hole. But at years end, each player wrapped up 2019 with 800 points.

CDGA.org

And it marked the first since the award was first presented in 1993, because there was a tie at the top of the leaderboard at years end.

Both players Less, a senior at Northern Illinois University, and Perkins a senior at Illinois State University, had such strong finishes at tournaments all year, even when they didn’t win.

Each player had help from their college teammates in team events. Less had Paul Schlimm in the CDGA Four-Ball at Oak Park Country Club. Perkins did it with Daniel Anfield in the USGA U.S. Amateur Fourball Championship.

The Senior Player of the Year Award, was much more clear-cut. Sheppard had the early point lead, and never gave it up. His season started in May by winning the 18th CDGA Senior Amateur Championship at Briar Ridge Country Club. So Sheppard does become the fifth player to win back-to-back, CDGA Player of the Years.
