THE GOG BLOG SPEAKS OUT-OUTDOOR SEASON CLOSING TIME

HERITAGE OAKS GOLF CLUB at 3535 Dundee Road in Northbrook. But while the outdoor season at Heritage Oaks has ended, the indoor season in the Acorn Grill and the clubs two simulators is just beginning. HeritageOaksgc.com or call (847)-291-2351.

The last shift ends at Heritage Oaks for the 2023 golf season.

IT CAME AND WENT-JUST LIKE THAT. Outdoor golf in the year 2023.

Because today the outdoor golf season ends for several courses, even though a few other will stay open as long as there is no snow on the ground.

But the 50 degree mark seems to be where courses close, when the temperatures don’t exceed this level for several days in a row.

THE SNOW BIRDS as they are known, are starting to pack their car and head to places like Florida, Arizona and Southern California. Because for many clubs the only thing left do, is to have the annual holiday party.

I work at two clubs Heritage Oaks in Northbrook, which is now a year round golf facility. Because when the club was renovated a couple of years ago, the new clubhouse added an upgraded grill, complete with two simulators. The outdoor version of Heritage Oaks is closed, but the indoor golf facility is filling up quickly. BTW the Acorn Grill has great taco specials on Tuesday, and chicken wings specials on Wednesday. So do check them out all winter long, your taste buds will thank you.

MY OTHER IS THE GROVE COUNTRY CLUB in Long Grove, which will introduce simulator golf to it’s members this week for the first time. After a great year outdoors, the club is growing and seeing more use by the membership. So for the first time in a while, the club could enjoy some winter golf. The Grove is a great place for golf outings and weddings, do visit TheGrovecc.com for more information. The club is closing outdoor play tomorrow.

SO DID YOU get a jump on your holiday golf shopping. Because the Year End Golf Sale at Twin Orchard Country Club last week was the place to do it. Because many golfers did just that. Stacy Larson of Twin Orchard CC runs a great show So here is what I observed from the shoppers.

A great deal on Pro-V1 golf balls by Titleist was found quickly, and those balls nearly sold out the first night. Early into Day 2, they were all gone. Callaway golf balls Red Box were next on the buyers list. Golf balls that didn’t sell that well were TaylorMade and Srixon, even at low prices.

What seems to have been a hard sell this year was golf shoes. Because some of the big names in golf shoes just didn’t move like you would think they would. So are golf shoes being made too flimsy, too expensive, too heavy, poorly shaped or something else. I thought golf bags which have really gotten expensive would move better than they did at the show. Sqairz golf shoes are my shoe of choice, they are best golf shoes I have ever worn. I can’t wait to see what is coming next, from Sqairz in 2024.

CUBS FANS must have outnumbered Sox fans, because Cubs golf items sold out, the Sox items did not sell at all. Apparel logo’s, are golfers now looking for shirts with the manufacturer’s logo on them or the golf course logo. Does one need to be a Top 100 course to really move golf shirts.

The Mistwood Golf Dome in Bolingbrook is open for the winter. The Mistwood Black Friday sale is at the dome this week. See Mistwoodgolfdome.com.

The Mistwood Golf Dome is open for the winter season, on Rt. 53 in Bolingbrook.

The dome is home to McWethy’s Sports Bar, where you can continue to watch our local sports teams lose on more nights than most. Do have the chicken wings, among the best you will find.

But the golf with Toptracer is there, and club fitting and lessons are always available. Kudo’s to Mistwood’s Director of Golf Andy Mickelson, on being the Illinois PGA section’s 2023 Player of the Year. Nicely done Andy.

WORLD PLAYER RANKING #1407 is Tiger Woods. The lowest ranking ever for the guy making yet another comeback. Like an over the hill prizefighter, Woods will tee it up in his 20 player golf outing “The Hero.” While his Tiger Golf League that suffered the loss of Jon Rahm, now has lost it’s dome facility to a collapse from a power outage. So as a result the league will launch in 2025. I bet you can’t wait-yeah right.

ZINGER IS OUT-NBC has announced that color analyst Paul Azinger will not have his contract renewed. So who is in the booth next. Sadly NBC still hasn’t removed Dan Hicks from the booth. So there is speculation Brad Faxon could be next one in. But what would be great is if NBC could talk Johnny Miller out of retirement.

THE PINE MEADOW GOLF CLUB isn’t worried about Black Friday sales, they have already started several sales on golf products. But they have a Thanksgiving Day golf special on the tee, for those wanting to play before or after they eat. So visit Pinemeadowgc.com for call (847)-566-4653 (GOLF) for details.

THE GOG BLOG will return this week. But enjoy golf tomorrow if your club is still open. RS

Heritage Oaks Golf Club on Dundee Road in Northbrook. (847)-291-2351.

Heritage Oaks Golf Club in Northbrook, one of the Chicagoland area’s most popular public golf courses, has announced it will close for the season this Sunday, November 19th.

But the good news is that, the closing only affects the outdoor golf courses. Because the Acorn Grill and the two simulators will be open all winter.

So golf never really ends at Heritage Oaks. The Friday night Fish-Fry is back in the Grill. So stop in and and try out the seafood.

Heritage Oaks will keep it’s top rated Trackman driving range range open through this Saturday November 18th. But the last bucket will be sold at 3 pm on Saturday afternoon.

The frozen first hole at “The Oaks” before the start of last Saturday mornings “Turkey Shoot”.

This past Saturday Heritage Oaks hosted it’s annual “Turkey Shoot” golf outing.

Nearly 130 golfers hit the course for a fun day of golf, and a chance for prizes. Everyone got to leave with a 13-14 pound turkey. But in spite of brief frost delay, everyone had a great time.

During the winter golf season, the simulators will be open for golf, lessons and club fittings. So if the simulators are full up with golfers. There is an additional tent set up in the pro shop, for fittings and lessons.

The next few days Heritage Oaks will be one of the clubs taking part in the Year-End Golf Sale at Twin Orchard Country Club in Long Grove. So there will be great specials on apparel and amore from Heritage Oaks.

Heritage Oaks and the Northbrook Park District thank everyone who came out and enjoyed Heritage Oaks during the outdoor golf season of 2023. The 2024 outdoor golf season, will begin as soon as the weather permits. So watch online for opening day in 2024.

THE GOG BLOG SPEAKS OUT-SHOW TIME AT TWIN ORCHARD

THE TWIN ORCHARD GOLF SALE hits the first tee Thursday Morning at 9 Am. Great choices on apparel, golf balls, bags, gloves and more. This is one sale you don’t want to miss. Three days of golf shopping with products from both public and privates clubs.

BACK ON THE GROVE!

It’s been great to be teeing it up again on the home turf at the Grove CC in Long Grove.

Today my game briefly reappeared at the 5th hole, and then got better as the front nine continued. But to play six holes in just two over par these days, yes I will gladly take it.

When you go through two months of almost no golf, and miss a few of your favorite golf outings of the year. It is brutal. I am hoping 2024 goes much better.

Show Time at Twin Orchard CC, the best deals of the year. The early tee times will find plenty of great bargains.

HAVE YOU HEARD ALL THAT TIGER TALK OF LATE!

Yes I though you did. Because it’s the silly season time of year.

So are you getting all the emails, that Tiger taught his son a move. Caddied for his son, is saving a spot for himself in his 20 player outing coming up soon. Silly season is here.

But how much have your heard about his plans for a night spot near St. Andrews in Scotland. Well the locals don’t like it, and the plan seems to be going up in smoke. Tigers TGR league has issues, and one of them is Jon Rahm dropping out. Of course there is the golf professional that was critical of the TW design used on the PGA Tour last week.

Heritage Oaks at sunrise. The club is open through this Sunday, and then indoors all winter. There are 2 simulators in the clubhouse with the bar in the Acorn Grill close by. A third bay will be set up for club fitting and lessons in the pro shop. Taco Tuesdays and Wings on Wednesdays will continue.

WILL LIV GOLF RETURN IN 2024.

The LIV Golf 2024 schedule will be out shortly, the LIV Golf team tells Golfers on Golf.

So far LIV has announced the return of it’s stop in Australia, that drew huge galleries. Great news for those in the down under.

But what is not so clear, is whether LIV Golf returns to Jerry Rich’s Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove.

RHF has invited LIV to return in 2024, but it appears that LIV Golf might wish to take it’s product to a few new markets in 2024. So this could leave Chicago off the schedule for next year. Let’s hope not. New stops in 2024 include both Houston and Nashville.

LAST FRIDAY was the Illinois Golf Hall of Fame Induction dinner for the Class of 2023. Golfers on Golf is waiting for the full wrap-up to share the details of a special night for golf in Illinois, and the inductee’s that were enshrined.

THE MISTWOOD GOLF DOME IS OPEN-which means your favorite wing bar is as well. So when it gets cold out-go check out Toptracer in the dome. The Black Friday sale in the dome is coming up. Mistwoodgc.com Mistwoodgolfdome.com.

THE HERITAGE OAKS TURKEY TROT was a great success last weekend. 128 golfers played in slightly warmer temperatures than last year, when the temperatures never hit 40 degrees. Plus the sun never came out. If your having a similar event this weekend, good luck on the weather. But golfers rain or shine do seem to enjoy them.

SPEAKING OF WEATHER, it’s pretty good this week. So get out and play before it changes and local courses start closing. The Gog Blog is back this week. RS

THE GOG BLOG SPEAKS OUT-LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL

I’M BACK…

My health is coming back FINALLY. But it’s been a long two months away from Golfers on Golf.

Special thanks to my alias Peter Parker for filling in on one post for me a couple of weeks back.

Actually a few folks asked if I was about to start shooting webs with my left arm, after seeing the damage from what is believed to be a spider-bite.

What started as a nearly month long illness from a sinus infection-that appeared to run down into the lungs. Phase two was getting bit apparently by a spider, the enlarged an inflamed my arm to twice it’s size. So when my left hand finally shrunk back down to size, my three middle fingers did not fully work. But now I’m glad to say they do. So as I geared up to type, I have been hit by four Comcast outages. But after visits by the Comcast technicians, it appears all the bugs (pun-intended) have been repaired. But yet another setback that has kept me off line and out of the world of golf for another two weeks.

The good news is that FINALLY-I am back out playing golf. But while not normally as well as I do play. I am playing. I guess I could say, you don’t know what got till it’s gone. Missing the fall golf season was really tough. My arm is not 100% perfect, it’s still weaker than the right one, and has some area’s of skin to again start looking normal. It does have a full range of motion, which allows for a golf swing. So all is not perfect, but it’s much better than it was. Golfersongolf.com is back with plenty of catch-up to do But I will do just that.

IT WAS GOLF DAY TODAY at the Ivanhoe Club in Ivanhoe.

Blow the lines-it is that time of year, even on a 70 degree day.

I HAD NOT BEEN to the Ivanhoe Club since the end of the Rust-Oleum event on the Korn Ferry Tour.

There was a knock on the club that it was to far away from the city to draw big crowds. So while there is some truth to that, the same thing is said about Rich Harvest Farms for the LIV Golf tournaments.

But last year on Sunday over 22,000 golf fans make the trek to Sugar Grove to see the top players in the world of golf in the first year of LIV. So the Ivanhoe Club with it’s three nine’s, Forest, Prairie and Marsh are all good Arthur Hills designs. But while large amounts of water comes into play on some holes.

This challenging design is good private club golf, that would make a great host to some tournament in the future. So here is hoping the club is ready to host another event. I feel it could, even though long time head golf professional Jim Sobb has retired. But new pro Jim Billiter has Ivanhoe running to a point where things have not missed a beat. While I was there I noticed the new Pickleball courts were under construction, for those who enjoy the game. Ivanhoe will soon be Pickleball friendly.

The year end golf sale is back at Twin orchard Country Club. Deals-deals and deals.

THE YEAR END GOLF SALE is back.

NEXT WEEK Thursday 9-8, Friday 9-8 and Saturday from 9 to 5.

This show provides a great variety of golf products at great prices from clubs both private and public.

So you will find deals here you won’t find anywhere else. The credit for this great golf event is Stacy Larson who handles merchandising for Twin Orchard. I am proud to say the two clubs I represent, both Heritage Oaks GC in Northbrook and The Grove Country Club will be there with items to sell. I will be there all four days, so do say hello if we cross paths.

MISTWOOD GOLF CLUB has decided to remain open through November 19th, after originally planning to close in early November. But the Mistwood Golf Dome has opened for the winter golf season as of November 1st.

GOLFERS ON GOLF RADIO host and partner Len Ziehm has posted several recent stories in both the Arlington Heights Daily Herald, and at Lenziehmongolf.com. Len has stories on the Annika event in Florida that is really worth checking out.

BLACK FRIDAY EVENTS are happening. The Indoor sale at the Mistwood Golf Dome in Bolingbrook starts early. The four-man scramble at Chad Johansen’s Blackberry Oaks in Bristol. Cog Hill is running Black Friday golf and sales, so golfers be ready for Black Friday. The Chad Johansen indoor golf facility is now opening for the winter golf season in Yorkville.

CALLAWAY ODYSSEY GOLF has launched it’s new line of putters. The story on the line will be out here shortly.

THE LARGEST GOLF DOME in the Chicago area, the Willow Hill Golf Dome has opened for the winter season. Visit Willowhillgolfdome.com/golf hours are 8 Am to 3 pm, with rates at $15 per half hour.

WEATHER IN THE CHICAGO AREA is shaping up to be not to cold for the remainder of the month. Temperatures could be in the 50’s and low 60’s on some days into early December. So if that’s the case, do get out and play. It’s not too late. RS

THE GOG BLOG SPEAKS OUT-ONCE BITTEN-BUT STILL NOT SHY

HERITAGE OAKS GOLF CLUB on Dundee Road in Northbrook, will still be open for another month of outdoor golf. So as the temperatures warm up for the rest of the week come out and play. Because it’s not simulator season just yet. 27 holes of golf and a Trackman Range, one of the area’s best. Heritage Oaks will be represented at the Year-End Golf sale at Twin Orchard CC in Long Grove, November 16-18. But for more details on Heritage Oaks Golf Club, the year end Turkey Shoot. The off season simulators, and the Acorn Grill. Visit HeritageOaksGC.org or you can call the club at (847)-291-2351.

STACY LARSON from Twin Orchard Country Club in Long Grove (L) operates the Year End Golf Sale November 16-18. Great deals on golf apparel and merchandise. Rory Spears Golfers on Golf (R).

ONCE BITTEN-and that’s all it took.

So if you see me shooting webs like Peter Parker, it’s because it appears I was the victim of a very poisonous spider bite.

One that has K-O’D me and Gog Blog for almost three weeks. But this on the heels of a nasty sinus infection, that traveled to my lungs and had me sick for almost a month. So you get over one thing almost, and then cleaning out a range shed for a new floor a couple of days later and then bug bite strikes. Multiple doctor visits yes, but a near stay in the ER for 24 hours was barely avoided. The 4th drug I’m taking is finally working.

I AM STILL not 100% healed from the bite, that has left my left arm swollen and burnt. Three fingers on my left hand still do not work at 100%. But I am gaining on it, little-by-little each day. So I am still not ready to crank-copy every day as I normally do. But I will start getting out what I can, when I can.

IT WAS GREAT TO HEAR FROM STACY LARSON about the upcoming Year End Golf merchandise sale she operates in November at Twin Orchard Country Club. This is one of the best sales on golf items you will find anywhere in the Chicago area. November 16-17 from 9Am to 8 Pm, and then on Saturday Nov. 18 from 9 Am to 5 Pm. So start spreading the word and I will see you in Long Grove next month.

OWGR THE FORMER OFFICIAL WORLD GOLF RATINGS. OWGR is clueless and now no longer worth following, they are insignificant in the world of golf. So OWGR rate everyone-or-nobody.

There is plenty to catch up on, and when I get back to 100%, there will be plenty of stories to see right here. I’m glad to be back, at least once and a while anyway. RS

DECHAMBEAU RALLIES TO WIN LIV AT RICH HARVEST FARMS

Bryson Dechambeau with trophy wins the Chicago LIV Golf event at Rich Harvest Farms-after a closing round of 63 on Sunday. Photo by Rory Spears.

THAT MAKES 3 IN ILLINOIS

Bryson DeChambeau has won for the third time in Illinois.

All of the above have been meaningful wins in DeChambeau’s career.

Because shortly after good finish at Rich Harvest Farms in the 2015 Western Amateur at Rich Harvest Farms, DeChambeau went on a tear and won the 2015 USGA-Amateur at Olympia Fields.

The party hole-17 at Rich Harvest Farms.

So during his week at Olympia Fields DeChambeau spoke how the Western Amateur was a great tune-up for the US-Amateur. That his play at RHF elevated his game to where he wanted it to be to come amateur week.

DeChambeau says he hoping that his play in Chicago puts him where he wants to be, when LIV Golf arrives in Miami for the LIV Golf tour’s final USA event at Doral Resort.

But while Dechambeau’s final round 8 under par 63, over-took his Crushers teammate Anirban Lahari for the overall win. DeChambeau finishing before Lahari thought he would come up one shot short. But then after seeing Lahari struggle with an approach shot that came up short of the 18th green, DeChambeau started thinking playoff. But then Lahari’s approach to the pin, came up 9 feet short leaving him a slick putt for par.

Team Crushers GC L-R Charles Howell III, Anirban Lahari, Bryson DeChambeau and Paul Casey.

But Lahari’s putt to save par and force a playoff never had a chance. Because it slid past the hole, some 4-5 inches wide left of the cup.

So the next thing DeChambeau knew he went from runner-up to playoff-to winner.

DeChambeau was pulling for his Crushers teammate Lahari to make the putt and force the playoff. Where DeChambeau hoped the tournament would get settled. But the playoff was not needed. Crushers now only trail 4Aces for the team championship lead.

Talor Gooch’s 7th place finish earned him $660,000 and allowed him to keep sole possession of first place in the individual money race.

DeChambeau’s other win on the LIV Tour this year came at the Greenbrier on the famed old White Course. DeChambeau’s final round 12 under par 58, was amazing golf but it’s not known if his 63 today tied or beat the course record here at Rich Harvest Farms.

Sergio Garcia one of your 5 first round leaders at Rich Harvest Farms.

Sergio Garcia is one of the five first round leaders at LIV Golf Chicago-Rich Harvest Farms.

Garcia is tied at 5 under par with Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa, Judiah Morgan of Australia, Sebastian Munoz of Columbia and Ainrban Lahari of India.

Garcia and Oosthuizen said post round that Rich Harvest Farms is playing in great condition considering the amount of rain fall that has landed in the last week in Sugar Grove.

But there are 12 players within two shots of the lead. So this sets up for a wild shoot out this weekend.

Because both players and teams are fighting for position, as the LIV Golf Tour gets ready for the tour championship in a few weeks at Doral Golf in Miami.

***Sergio Garcia speaks exclusively with Len Ziehm of the Daily Herald/Golfers on Golf and Rory Spears of GOG on not being a part of this years Ryder Cup team from Europe.

Several players thought the scores could be lower. This in spite of the heavy rains that have fallen in the last week at Rich Harvest Farms.

Multiple players said that Rich Harvest Farms  owner Jerry Rich, stopped at dinner on Thursday night to apologize for conditions. But the players to a man, said there was nothing to apologize for because the conditions were fine.

Multiple players in the post round press conference spoke about how they enjoy Rich Harvest Farms, and look forward to returning in 2024.

Golfers on Golf plans to speak with Jerry Rich on possibility of that happening. But as of now it seems likely that they will.

Simulator season will soon be starting at Heritage Oaks in Northbrook. So lean more at HeritageOaksgc.com or (847)-291-2351.

LIV GOLF IS BACK for year No.2 at Jerry Rich’s-Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove.

Today is great time to buy tickets before the deal expires-tonight.

Cam Smith is back to defend his title, and Dustin Johnson is looking to win the team championship one more time.

There are concerts on property after Rounds 1 & 2-with Nelly on Friday night, and Tiesto on Saturday. But the golf should be even better. Because Brooks Koepka will be tuning up to go play the Ryder Cup in Italy the following week.

PRO-AM is Thursday, with Rounds 1-2 & 3 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I am anxious to see a larger and more wild crowd than even last years group. So the atmosphere will be more fun than some local college football teams. But even more fun than our local football team on Sunday.

The action should be really good at “The Farm” as players fight for the position they want heading into the LIV Tour Championship at Doral in Miami. That is just a few weeks away. But hospitality is almost sold-out, so grab what tickets you can, and go out to Rich Harvest Farms for all the fun.

STRETCH DRIVE-IT’S BEEN A FUN YEAR for Golfers on Golf Radio Saturday mornings on WNDZ 750 AM with a 10 Am tee time. So it’s hard to believe this Saturday is Week No.20 and at 11 Am, we are done for the year. We hope that you can join us for the last live broadcast of the season.

LEN ZIEHM will have a arrived in town and plans on being in studio for the first time this year, fresh off a visit from Pinehurst. I can’t wait to hear all the details. 2024 will be exciting in Pinehurst, with course #10 opening and the U.S. Open in town come June.

THE DEBATE is still on over Ryder Cup picks. If players are upset over not being selected, they could announce they won’t play Ryder Cup’s in future years. IF PLAYERS from both teams started dropping out across the board for 2025-27 and so forth. Teams or captains might have to start selecting better.

CONGRATS TO IPGA PRO Don Wegrzyn has been selected to the PGA of America Hall of Fame. Congrats Don.

THE UNIVERSITY of ILLINOIS held it’s annual invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club. The 54-hole event was shortened to 36-holes, when heavy rains fell on Sunday morning. Illinois entered ranked No.9, but finished in tenth place.

NEWS FROM STREAMSONG is that the new 3,000 yard 19 hole golf course by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw opens for play on December 1st. Tee times at Streamsong.com. Can’t wait to play there, this will be a fun one.

PHIL MICKELSON has made a personal announcement on his website, that he is not gambling on football this fall. Mickelson has admitted that he went through a gambling addiction, and that he is no longer gambling as a result. Good for Phil-it appears that gambler Billy Waters book on Mickelson has had an impact.

The Gog Blog returns all week, and I look forward to seeing everyone at LIV Golf this week. Rich Harvest Farms will host a quite a party. RS
