SHOWTIME II IS HERE…
But this time it’s not in Orlando Florida, it’s in Rosemont Illinois.
Because the Chicago Golf Show is back, and show owner Tom Corcoran tells me it might be the biggest one to date.
So let’s hope he is correct. The weather for Friday and on the weekend, will be nice enough to go out to the show. But not really nice enough to go outside and play golf. Even though by Friday most of our snow should be gone after a few days in the 50’s, lets hope so.
CONGRATS TO FORMER ILLINI GOLFER BRAIN CAMPBELL on his first PGA Tour win yesterday in Mexico. It took a nice bounce of his ball off a tree during the playoff, to get the job done. But what really matters is that he did punch a ticket to the Masters. Way to go Brian. ANOTHER FORMER ILLINOIS player Thomas Detry won the Phoenix WM tournament on the PGA Tour, somewhere Illinois Golf Coach Mike Small must be smiling.
I HAVE NOT THEM YET-but I am looking forward to going out to Batavia and Tour Edge Golf, to hit the new 725 Series of clubs. They do look really good, and credit to CEO David Glod and President Tim Clarke, on putting out a new line of clubs, that is not a budget buster. So if your buying-check out the great prices by Tour Edge. Because if the $600 dollar driver is not for you, see Tour Edge, $250 might be a better number.
IT WILL BE AN INTERESTING concept if it does come together.
The next level in golf domes, would not be a driving range per-say. But actually a full golf course, or at least 9-holes.
So the plan is to have three holes in each dome, and after playing three holes you take the connection way to the next dome. There would be a “clubhouse” attached to the dome.
While on paper the concept sounds neat, I wonder about the location. There are two other good domes not far away. Would there be too much competition in a small area for domed golfers in the winter. Would golfers from all over the Chicago area, flock there to play nine holes, with no massive par-5’s on the course. Megaladome Golf or it’s parent company is reportedly based in Canada, the location would be in Oswego off of Route 30 and Rance Road. Stay tuned for more.

Len Ziehm of the Daily Herald and Golfers on Golf Radio, has his latest column of some golf travel news.
First on the tee is the launch of the Kentucky Golf Trail. It’s currently six courses between Louisville and Lexington Kentucky. But the word is that the trail could be 12 courses by mid-summer.
Len has some other updates on properties from Michigan to Florida on his LenZiehmongolf.com website. that includes a column on innovations for putting.
DO THEY OR DON’T THEY, new PGA Commissioner Derek Sprague claims his organization hasn’t really had a seat at the table with the other big organizations in golf. When it comes to shaping the sport of golf. A claim that USGA Ex. director Michael Whan says is not true. So what it really seems like is, former PGA CEO, Seth Waugh, didn’t do a great job on briefing Sprague, before he took office. Hopefully the PGA of America can get it’s house in order.
