TAKING A LOOK AT THE COLLEGE GOLF SCENE TODAY.
University of Illinois men’s golf team member Nick Hardy was named the Big Ten Men’s Golfer of the Week, for his play at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas. Hardy shot a final round 68, and was 2 under for the tournament, giving him a Top 10 finish.
This week the Illinois men’s team heads to California and the Big Horn I hosted by invitational hosted by kansas State. Illinois is ranked 15th in the country and will get Sr. Dylan Meyer back in the lineup. Meyer missed the Southern Highlands event while playing in the PGA Tour Valspar event at Innisbrook Resort near Tampa Florida. This week at BigHorn, Illinois will be joined by 11 teams, on the 7,000 yard par 72 Canyons Course. Four schools in addition to Illinois are in the Top 50 in the country. The first 36 holes are today.
THE ILLINI WOMEN’S TEAM ranked #23 in the country is coming off a third place finish at the Briar Creek Invitational in South Carolina. Sr. Grace Park and So. Tristin Nowlin led the team as they both tied for 7th place. This week starting today they compete in the first ever Mountain View collegiate in Tucson Arizona, that has a field of 15 schools.
FORMER U OF I Women’s team member and Phil Kosin Illinois Women’s Open Champion Stephanie Miller, played in Florida last week on the Symetra Tour, and made cut that included a Top 30 finish.

NU Sr. Dylan Wu, has been selected as a finalist for the 2018 Byron Nelson Award that is presented to the graduating Senior, whose college career, of golf and academic accomplishments, and integrity are all taken into consideration. Wu is the fourth golfer in Northwestern history to be under consideration for the award. Wu is second in Northwestern history in stroke average, trailing only current PGA Tour professional Luke Donald.
The other candidates include Hayden Buckley of Missouri, Oklahoma’s Grant Hirschman, Michigan’s Kyle Mueller, and Baylor Universities Matthew Perrine. The finalists are determined by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
THE NORTHWESTERN WOMEN are currently ranked 11th in the country according to the NCAA and Golfweek rankings.
