It’s early into 2016 and already it’s turning into a great year for the University of Illinois Men’s Golf Team.
But lets not forget the Illini ladies who are also off to a good start.
Senior Charlie Danielson represented Illinois in the Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase. He is one of the 14 top college players that were selected to play in the event. Danielson was paired with Scott Langley.
“I’m really looking forward to playing in the event,” said Danielson. ” It’s going to be a great opportunity for me, and very special to be chosen considering how deep our team is.”
Danielson, Langley and two amateur players will team up in a foursome, the winning team professional/amateur team will earn the university’s golf program a $50,000 dollar donation. Each college player will play his own ball, with low medalist earning a sport in the Northern Trust Open.
When the round was complete, Danielson had shot a 3 Under par 68 to win the spot in the Northern Trust Open at Riviera.
“This was one of the cooler events I’ve played in since I have been in college,” said Danielson after playing in the showcase. ” It’s a testament to all of our hard work, to be one of the 14 teams and to be selected for the event and for me to be selected out of our great group of guys back home.”
Danielson will join Langley and former Illini alum Steve Stricker in the field.
ILLINOIS WOMEN’S GOLF
