The North Carolina city of Pinehurst is one of the great golf destinations in the world.

While the center piece of golf in Pinehurst are some of the gems at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club, including the famed No.2 course created by Donald Ross that will part of three USGA events in the next eight years.

But golf does not stop at just the Pinehurst Resort, other top destinations in the Pinehurst area include Pine Needles, Mid-Pines, Tobacco Road and the Talamore Golf Resort. Talamore has now announced that it will follow in the footsteps of the above named clubs in switching it’s greens to Bermuda.

The green conversion project will commence in early May of 2016, and should be concluded by mid-July, which would in time for the U.S. Kids World Golf Championship which is held through out the town, and Talamore is part of the championship.

Talamore Golf Club has part of the outstanding list of golf courses in the area since it first opened in 1991. Designed by Rees Jones, who helped on Pinehurst No.2 in preparation for the 1999 and 2005 U.S. Opens, built Talamore and created a fun course with visually striking views that can play as long as 7,020 yards. The club also created the first Llama caddie program.

When Talamore first opened it was with a Penncross strain of bent grass on it’s greens. After 25 years the club started looking at options for new greens, and elected Bermuda after seeing the success enjoyed by other clubs in the area who alreayd had made the change to Bermuda.

“Along with the smooth consistency, Bermuda greens fare far better than bent grass during the hot summer months around the Sandhills,” said Matt Hauser, PGA Director of Golf Operations at Talamore Golf Resort. “After a thorough review of the different strains, we have selected Champion Bermuda.”

Through the end of the month, Talamore is offering a popular golf package called “Arnie, Rees and Donald”. The package includes three rounds of golf and two nights lodging. The three rounds include Talamore, Mid-South and Pine Needles golf courses.
