The third round is in the books at the 2014 John Deere Classic. Can leader Brian Harman yet another University of Georgia alum win the title and a trip over to the British Open at Hoylake in the week ahead. Steve Stricker the three time winner is lurking, but JDC board member Zach Johnson has fallen 3 shots back in the pack.

It will be a final round shootout and the John Deere Classic and there are several players all bunched up on page 1 of the leaderboard.

Harman seemed to be in command of the championship when he rolled in his second eagle of the day on 17, a 47 foot putt that went dead center into the cup. But things changed right after that. Stricker the three time winner of the JDC then got up and down from right of green on 17 to close within 3 shots of Harman.

Then on 18 Harman hit his tee shot into the famed left fairway bunker, and with not having been in a bunker all day Harman’s approach only landed some 40 yards in front of the green. From there his wedge shot left him a slick nine foot downhill par saving putt that slid by on the short side.

Stricker meanwhile had found the front side of the green and had a 25 foot right to left breaker for another birdie. Stricker tried to just get it in close but hit a great putt that found the right edge of the cup. Then Harman missed his par saver and the lead was only one shot. The two players will be paired together tomorrow, they have played together before including in Harman’s rookie year at the BMW Championship.

Second round leader and JDC board member Zach Johnson had a grind it out day and could only manage a two under par 69, that keep his streak of rounds in the 60’s at Deere Run alive. The streak is now at 23 in a row. Johnson left a shot in the bunker on 17 that cost him a birdie there.

Scott Brown had the round of the day with a 10 under par 61, he sits alone in third place.

Tee times for round four start with Harris English at 7:05. Harman and Stricker tee off at 12:45.
