Palmer Cup week is here and the opening ceremonies are underway tomorrow after practice rounds. It’s Team USA vs Team Europe, with the King Arnold Palmer in the house.

The competition begins with the opening matches on Friday morning. Four-Ball and Foursome matches.

Singles matches will be played on both Saturday and Sunday, with the closing ceremonies to follow Sunday’s play.

The John Deere Classic and Tournament Director Clair Peterson today made their announcements of sponsors exemptions.

As normal, Peterson’s selections are excellent additions to the tournament.

No.1 world ranked amateur Bryson Dechambeau of SMU, who recently won the NCAA National Championship was the first selection. Dechambeau wears a Hogan Cap, and Plus-fours to honor Ben Hogan and Payne Stewart.

Lee McCoy is World No.4 in the amateur and just helped the Georgia Bulldogs advance to a third place finish in the NCAA Championships. He will be joined by graduating senior from Illinois Brian Campbell part of the Illinois team that finished T-3 in the NCAA Championships.

Patrick Rodgers a former World No.1 amateur player while at Stanford and now on the PGA Tour, gets his fourth exemption to the JDC.

NBC has the open back. Well the British Open that is. After losing the U.S. Open to Fox Sports, NBC has become the new TV home for the Open Championship in America.

The new contract kicks in for the 2017 Open and runs for 12 years through 2028. This contract allows NBC or it’s broadcast partners to have rights to the Senior British Open, the Walker Cup when overseas,and the British Amateur.

R & A Chief Executive Peter Dawson, said “We are delighted to announce that from 2017, The Open Championship will be broadcast by the NBC Sports Group. The first British Open NBC will broadcast will be held at Royal Birkdale.

THE FOREST DUNES GOLF CLUB, in Roscommon Michigan has announced that Brian Moore has joined the club to oversee the grow-in to the new course by architect Tom Doak. Moore leaves his position at the Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton to assume his new post at Forest Dunes.

Illinois Men’s Golf Coach Mike Small has been named the Coach of the Year winning the Dave Williams Award presented by Golf Pride Golf Grips. Six coaches do win this award every year, and Small joins five other coaches in receiving it.

Small lead the Illini to a final-four finish at the NCAA National Championships, in his 15th season at the helm. Illinois has gone to eight straight NCAA National Mens Golf Championships under Small.

The Western Golf Association (WGA) has announced that the 2017 WGA Junior Championship will be played at the Park Ridge Country Club from Jun 15-18.

Park Ridge stepped forward when Rich harvest Farms had to postpone it’s date to host the 2017 NCAA Men’s and Women’s National Championship.

The design at Park Ridge was created by architects Herbert Tweedie  and later Tom Bendelow each getting credit for nine-holes. In 2001 architect David Esler did a renovation. This years Western junior Championship will be played next week June 15-18 at the Riverside Country Club in North Riverside Illinois.

THE BMW CHAMPIONSHIP has ticket specials available through Fathers Day on June 21st, for the 2015 BMW Championship to be played at Conway farms in Lake Forest. For ticket information see BMWChampionship.com. There are still a limited number volunteer positions open for both the WGA Amateur in August at Rich Harvest Farms and the BMW Championship in September.
