When Illinois golfers think about Wisconsin golf, a few names like Kohler, Erin Hills, the courses of the Wisconsin Dells or Lake Geneva. Now there is another option for golfers that want to play some great golf and have a great time doing it.

The Golf Courses of Lawsonia in the town of Green Lake Wisconsin, is your new golf destination in the dairyland state.

As of March 1, 2014 Oliphant Golf did assume control of the operation of the golf courses of Lawsonia. Oliphant is a major name in golf course construction and restoration. Courses like Pebble Beach and Oakland Hills use Oliphant for their needs.

Craig Haltom VP, Golf Management for Oliphant Golf is the person who discovered the new Mike Keiser property in Wisconsin called Sand Valley. That property is currently being developed.

The golf courses do remain open to the public, with both memberships and daily fee play as in the past. Oliphant will oversee Lawsonia’s pro shop and restaurant operation. Formerly known as the Caddyshack, the new restaurant is now Langford’s Pub after course designer William Langford.

This year the pub will have expanded hours, and hopes to continue to grow off the success of the Friday night fish fry. Jeff Kleinke and Nick Lueptow to manage the pro shop and the restaurant.

“We look forward to many more years of successful partnership with The Golf Courses of Lawsonia,” says Haltom. “Clubhouse renovations are underway, and there are great things planned for the restaurant and the bar. This winter, we have continued an aggressive tree management and course restoration plan on the Links, and we have begun to open some dramatic lake views on the Woodlands course. It’s a busy an exciting time for Lawsonia.”

For the last three years, Oliphant has been the sub-contractor doing the maintenance of the courses. The feeling is that from tee to green the courses have never been in better condition.

Mike Lyons of Oliphant, the past president of the Wisconsin Golf Course Superintendents Association, is the Lawsonia superintendent.

This coming July 19th, is the inaugural Langford Shield golf outing, a different format every six holes. Teams are 2-player teams, come join in on the fun. Some golf historians feel the property is the best work by Langford, one of the famous golf architects of the years gone by.
