ROBERT BEAUBIEN Jr. holds the CDGA Amateur Trophy at Lake Shore Country Club.

Robert Beaubien Jr. (Barrington-Biltmore CC) is the winner of the 103rd CDGA Amateur.

Beaubien Jr. defeated Danny Fischer (Lake Forest-Lake Bluff GC) 6 & 5 in the 36-hole championship match.

“It’s awesome,” said Beaubien. “I didn’t think I would ever be in a position to say I won this event. But it’s really cool to  have won this championship and put my name on the list with all the other great champions that have won. It’s pretty special.”

Beaubien and Fischer went back and forth through most of the first 18 holes, until late in the round Beaubien won four consecutive holes to take a commanding lead.

But Beaubien never felt the match was over, playing every hole the rest of the way like the match was tied or first starting.

NEXT UP is the 92nd Illinois State Amateur at Bloomington Country Club from July 18th through the 20th. So for more information visit CDGA.org.
