Rory McIlroy talks to the media after near perfect Round 1 at the BMW Championship.

WRITING FROM WILMINGTON DE.

ROUND 1 is in the books at the 2022 BMW Championship at Wilmington Country Club in Delaware.

Keegan Bradley with his sizzling 7 under par 64 is the leader.

Rory McIlroy the betting favorite had his round going on full throttle, but he putĀ  his tee shot in the pond on the par-3 14th hole and made a six. But McIlroy is still in the hunt after day one-just four shots off the pace.

BRADLEY said his round started with a good putt on the first hole, and he just kept it going. But Bradley added that he enjoyed playing with Adam Scott, and that they had a blast. Bradley enters the week in 34th place in the Fed Ex Cup point standings, needing to move up four places to make the Tour Championship field in Atlanta next week.

JUSTIN THOMAS opened with a solid round of 66, and sits near the top of the leader board.

BUT AFTER THE ROUND Thomas spoke about using a new Scotty Cameron putter that he feels more comfortable with. But Thomas said that he likes the Wilmington Country Club more than last years BMW Championship venue Caves Valley in Maryland.

Thomas called Caves Valley a little too much of birdie-fest for his likes. But asked about the birdie-fest that he put on in 2019 at Medinah when he won the BMW. So did he know about the upcoming renovation on course #3.

With the birdies in Round 1, winning score is expected to be near 20 under par.

Attendance for Round 1 was estimated at just short of 20,000 by Golfers on Golf and the Illinois Golfer. The only two Chicago based media outlets covering the tournament live from Delaware.

Golfers on Golf Radio will have it’s final show of the season this Saturday morning at 10 AM, on WNDZ-AM 750 Chicago. But Golfers on Golf.com will continue all year round.
