The Evans Scholars Invitational beings the WGA’s 2020 golf calendar of championships.

The Glenview based Western Golf Association (WGA), has announced that it will conduct six championships in 2020.

The season begins at the second Evans Scholars Invitational at the Glen Club in Glenview from May 20-24. Defending champion Scottie Sheffler is now on the PGA Tour. A field of 156 players will compete to win this Korn-Ferry Tour event.

The Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest will host the Western Junior Championship in June.

The Western Junior Championship will be held at the historic Onwentsia Club of Lake Forest from June 15-18. A field of 156 juniors will tee off with the low 44 and ties making the 36 hole cut. Rickie Fowler and Jim Furyk are among the list of past champions.

“We’re proud and excited to be hosting golf championships at all levels for top men and women golfers,” said Vince Pellegrino, WGA senior vice president of tournaments. “We’re expecting excellent competition among some of the finest junior, amateur and professional golfers in the world.”

Pellegrino added that five of the championships are in the Chicago area this summer.

The Grove Country Club in Long Grove hosts the Women’s Western Junior Championship from June 15-19.

“We’re also conducting five of the six events in the greater Chicago region,” said Pellegrino. “Chicago-area golf fans won’t have to travel far to see some of the years finest golf championships.”

For the first time The Grove Country Club will host a WWGA event, when it hosts the WWGA Junior Championship from June 15-19. 78 top rated juniors with a handicap of 14.4 or less will comprise the field, that is cut to the low 16 for the match play portion of the championship.

The Women’s Western Amateur Championship moves from Chicago’s north suburbs to the south suburbs, when Prestwick Country Club in Frankfort hosts the championship from July 20-25. The first time the club has hosted the championship. The field is 120 players, with a handicap of 5.4 or less. After the 36 holes of stroke play, the top 32 players will enter match play.

The following week has the WGA’s Western Amateur on the tee at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel Indiana. The club was designed by the late Pete Dye, and is just north of Indianapolis. Jack Nicklaus and Phil Mickelson are among the past champions. It will mark the first time the western Amateur will be played at Crooked Stick and the third time it will be played in the state of Indiana. Crooked Stick has hosted the BMW Championship in 2012 and 2016.

This year the BMW will be played at Olympia Fields from August 18-23. Tickets are now on sale. Since 2007 the BMW Championship has raised more than $35 million for the Evans Scholars Foundation. This year the Evans Scholars Foundation reached it’s goal of putting over 1,000 caddies (1010) into college. Over 11,050 have now graduated with degrees from the 18 universities that Evans Scholars attend.

“We not only provide golfers of all ages the opportunity to experience the thrill of competition, we’re raising funds for one of golf’s favorite and most impactful charities,” says Pellegrino. “We look forward to fulfilling that missions once again in the coming year.”

The last major men’s professional tournament held at Olympia Fields on it’s North Course, was the 2003 U.S. Open won by Jim Furyk. The Women’s KPMG PGA Championship was played there in 2017. The field for the BMW Championship will be 70 players, with the top 30 players in the Fed Ex Cup point standings advancing to the Tour Championship in Atlanta.
