THE SR. PGA CHAMPIONSHIP at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor Michigan, has announced a volunteer of the year award in honor of Dr. John M. Proos the Co-Chairman of the championships medical committee. Dr. Proos passed away this summer. The 2014 award winner will be named on October 21st. The award will then be handed out in 2016 and in 2018 when the championship returns to Harbor Shores.
The Women’s Western Golf Association recently held it’s annual meeting on October 9th, at the Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield. The WWGA has been hosting tournaments since 1901.
The featured speaker was BIG 3 Partner Tim Cronin, and two awards were presented. The two winners of the Women of Distinction Awards were, Susan Wagner who has been a Director since 1977 and Audrey Peterson. During the years the WWGA has handed out over 3.35 million dollars in scholarships to over 600 winners from 45 states across the country.

THE FIGHTING ILLINI have won three tournaments in a row and are the No.1 team in the country as of October 3rd. It’s the first time the men’s golf team at Illinois has been ranked No.1. Jr. Thomas Detry was named Big Ten Player of the week after his win this past week at the Sagamore Preview Tournament played in Indiana.
PHASE 3, the construction of the new clubhouse is well underway at Mistwood golf Club in Romeoville. Mistwood the home of the Phil Kosin Illinois Women’s Open, will be an even better full service golf club in 2015.
The golf course will open for the 2015 season before the clubhouse is complete, but owner Jim McWethy is expecting the clubhouse to be ready by the start of the PK-IWO.
A two-part clubhouse will run above and below ground. The unnamed restaurant will be a place for golfers and non-golfers can enjoy a great meal. THE COLUMBUS OHIO BASED Hurdzan Golf, designers of the 2017 U.S. Open site Erin Hills, have been retained to do a renovation to the Worthington Hills Country Club in Central Ohio. Construction is underway and should be done late in 2014.
The Hurdzan Golf Design and Fry/Straka Global Golf Design Companies have added two renovation of the year awards by Golf Inc. Magazine. the courses named were the Ambiente Course at the J.W. ANDREW PRICE won the 22nd Illinois State Mid-Amateur Championship at Flossmoor Country Club. Price of Lake Bluff shot scores of 69-70-71 for the wire-to-wire victory. “I played well,” said Price. ” I putted very well and drove it well, I kept the ball in play. I didn’t hit my irons as well as I normally do, so my short game and getting up and down was important this week.”
Price’s score of six under par, defeated runner up Derek Meinhart of Mattoon by two shots. Dave Ryan and Glenn Przybylski were third. The championship will be played at Flossmoor again in 2015.
