THE USGA RETURNS to DUPAGE GOLF with a qualifier for the U.S. Womens Amateur tomorrow at the Preserve in Addison. See Dupagegolf.com for all the big events coming to the Preserve-Maple Meadows-and Green Meadows. (R) THE SCHAUMBURG GOLF CLUB 401 N. Roselle Road has reopened 7 holes of the BAER NINE, with the other 2 holes (17-18) reopening later this month. For details on tee times and more see Schaumburggolf.com or call the club (847)-885-9000. Construction has begun on the Tournament 9 for Phase 3 of the renovation, it will be done next summer. _____________________________________________________________________
THE USGA IS BACK tomorrow, even if it’s for one day. But a qualifier for the U.S. Women’s Amateur is a pretty big deal.
That qualifier will be held at the Preserve at Oak Meadows, in Addison. Another good feather in the cap of the Greg Martin renovated golf course.
The USGA has not posted the field for tomorrow yet, so I can’t ahre the locals who will be teeing it up. But I’m sure there will be some players from the area trying to make it into the field.
The U.S. Women’s AM will be played in Mississippi at Old Waverly, the site of the 1999 U.S. Women’s Open. A congratulations to Lemont’s Lauren Beaudreau, who already did qualify, and was the medalist at the Westhaven Country Club in Tennessee last week, after shooting a 67.
JOHN DEERE CLASSIC..it’s great to get the PGA Tour back in Illinois this week, when the John Deere Classic tees it up at TPC Deere Run in Silvis. Defending Champion Michael Kim will return, along with some locals that include Wilson’s Kevin Streelman and NU’s Luke Donald.
GREAT NEWS TODAY..Illinois alum Dylan Meyer shot a 7 under par 65 at Pinnacle Country Club, to advance from the JDC Monday qualifier into the field for Thursday. An even par round of 72, was not good enough for Mistwood Golf Club’s Andy Mickelson to advance. Too bad Illini alum Steve Stricker has taken a pass this year to play in the Senior Players Championship, maybe next year for the 50th. Jordan Spieth was another maybe right up to the last minute, but opted out. Hopefully next year Jordan will go for his own version of the tractor-triple.
Schuamburg GM Jon Parsons, joined Golfers on Golf Radio last Saturday, and talked about the reopening of the Baer Nine, or at least 7 of 9 holes.
The remaining two holes on the Baer Nine holes 17-18, should be open at some point in July. Stay clicked in for details.
Construction has begun on the final nine holes, so be ready for July of 2020, because the opening of the final 9 holes will be exciting.
Schaumbrug will be one of the best public courses in the Chicagoland area, when the entire project is done.
FROM PEORIA..comes word that, The Weaver Ridge Golf Club of Peoria, has retained ISU alum DA Weibring to do renovation work on the golf course. New ownership took over the golf course last month.
