IT’S BMW CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK, and this year it’s in the Philadelphia area at Aronimink Country Club, it should be an exciting week, at a great old classic Donald Ross designed golf club.
Heading up the field is the defending champion from Conway Farms Marc Leishman, he is joined by three-time major champion and winner of two major championships in 2018, Brooks Koepka, and past winner of two BMW Championships Dustin Johnson.
“The Fed Ex Cup Playoffs always produce a world-class field for the BMW Championship,” said Vince Pellegrino, senior vice president of tournaments for the Western Golf Association. “We are thrilled that the Philadelphia-area golf fans will have the opportunity to see these stars compete.”
Some of the other past BMW Championship winners in the field include Jason Day (Conway Farms), Rory McIlroy (Crooked Stick), Justin Rose (Cog Hill), and Zach Johnson (Conway Farms).
Rose has a previous victory at Aronimink, from another PGA Tour event previously contested at the club.
Defending Fed Ex Cup Champion Justin Thomas is in the field, along with Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth another pats Fed Ex Cup champion, and current Masters Champion Patrick Reed.
Proceeds from the 2018 BMW Championship, will be used to fund Platt Evans Scholarships for caddies that are attending Penn State University, and to establish a scholarship house at Penn State-University Park where the scholarship recipients will house together. Since 2007 BMW has raised $27 million dollars to fund college scholarships for caddies of modest means.
THE ANNUAL Gardner Heidrick Pro-Am will be played on Wednesday Sept. 5th, two additions have been named to play in the event. Jay Wright the head coach of the Villanova Wildcats the reigning NCAA national champions in men’s basketball and former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and current NFL broadcaster Ron “Jaws” Jaworski.
