A RETURN TO THE GOLF NEWS.       Scott McCarron and Tim Petrovic are tied for the lead heading into the final round at the Sr. PGA Championship. Catch all the action this afternoon as the shootout on the Shores continue.

NCAA Men’s Golf. in Stillwater Oklahoma, Illinois and Northwestern  are fighting hard to make the first cut that lowers the field to 15 teams for the fourth and final stroke play round of the championships tomorrow. As of now Illinois is in and Northwestern could be on the wrong side of the bubble when it breaks for 15 schools. The match play part of the championships for the final 8 schools starts on Tuesday, and the national championship match is Wednesday.

KEN LAPP has retired after 71 years with the Jemsek family. Lapp started at age 12 working for the Jemseks at the Fresh Meadow Golf Club and was promoted to superintendent at age 19. ken worked at Cog Hill for 45 years, and in recent years helped out Pine Meadow in Mundelein. Lapp has retired to North Carolina to be closer to his family.

Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville is getting ready to host the 118th annual Women’s Western Golf Associations national amateur championship from June 25-30.

The field of 120 players is one of the best fields on women amateur players from around the world.

Past champions include Nancy Lopez, Patty Berg. Joanne Carner, Beth Daniel, Grace Park, Christie Kerr, Louise Suggs, Kathy Whitworth, Mickey Wright, Babe Zaharias, and Stacy Lewis.

Tournament Chairman and WWGA, first vice-president Cece Durbin said this about Mistwood, “The club has hosted numerous professional and amateur tournaments including 19 Illinois Women’s Open’s. The scenic course, that winds around two quarry ponds, will provide a challenge to every player. The WWGA is excited to be at one of the best courses in the Chicago area. Mistwood Golf Club that opened in 1998 and is designed by Ray Hearn, it will host it’s 20th Phil Kosin Illinois Women’s Open this July 16-17-18. THE POINT O’WOODS GOLF CLUB IN Benton Harbor Michigan that will again host the Western Amateur Championship in 2019, made 1992 and 1993 champion Justin Leonard and honorary member this Friday Friday night. The club has made several improvements in the last year, and is considering selling off 9 acres of unused land to a nearby business.

John Ehrgott was the winner for the second time in four years at the 2018, CDGA Mid-Amateur Championship at the Hinsdale Country Club.

Ehrgott who plays out of the Mt. Hawley Country Club, defeated Blake Johnson 3&2 of the Glen View Club.

Ehrgott 43, called the win “validation”. With the kids coming up now that hit it over 300 yards, it’s nice that us old guys can still be competitive.”

Ehrgott made a birdie on the Par 3, third hole and never trailed after that point in the match.

THE 2018 CONSTELLATION SENIOR PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP has very limited volunteer opportunities for championship week, July 9-15. The championship will be played at the Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age, and be available  to work shifts of 4-6 hours.
