KEMPERSPORTS then announced that the
Royal Melbourne Country Club is renovating
it’s practice facilities, this renovation will
be done by July 15th.
When finished the club will have a new
4,200 square foot putting green, a new
greenside bunker, and additional fairway
and rough turf, to practice longer shots into
the green.
Jay Blasi who served as project architect
to Robert Trent Jones Jr. at Chambers Bay
will oversee the project.
In addition over the winter the club removed
trees and widened the fairway along the left
side of the 17th hole. This made the hole a
full risk-reward par 5. The club did do some
wetlands work on the 8th hole as well.
Royal Melbourne opened in 1992 and is a
Greg Norman designed course. It was Norman’s
first course design project in the United States.
It is still regarded as one of the top private
clubs in the Chicago area. More information
