Bill Abrams 5x7 DS

Bill Abrams head professional at Balmoral Woods Country Club in Crete, is the 61st winner of the IPGA professional the year award.

The Illinois PGA has named Bill Abrams the 2015 Illinois PGA professional of the year, he becomes the 61st winner of the award.

Abrams is the head golf professional at Balmoral Woods in Crete. The award is the highest honor that is bestowed by the IPGA on a PGA Professional.

” Being named the 61st Illinois PGA Professional of the Year is very humbling and overwhelming,” said Abrams. “To look at the previous winners of this award and to be selected to join this esteemed group  is an honor I will cherish forever. I think about all the wonderful PGA Professionals who have influenced my career and I have a debt of gratitude to each of them. I am forever grateful for being recognized with this honor.”

Abrams, 48, will receive his award at the Illinois PGA Awards Ceremony on Thursday October 22nd, at the Medinah Country Club. That night the following PGA professionals will be honored with the following awards.

Phil Yudys of Wheaton, Assistant Golf Professional of the Year.                                       Dan Kochevar of Glen Ellyn, Teacher of the Year.                                                             Dennis Johnsen of Grayslake, The Youth Player Development Award.                             Don Pieper of Gurnee, The Bill Strausbaugh Award.                                                         Nick Papadakes of Wadsworth, the Horton Smith Award.                                                 Hans Larson of Mt. Prospect, The Player Development Award.                                         Alex Mendez of Downers Grove, PGA Merchandiser of the Year (Private Facility)           Rick Walrath of Lake in the Hills, PGA Merchandiser of the Year (Public Facility)             Brian Morrison of Flossmoor, The Bill Heald Career Achievement Award                         Juan Espejo of Chicago, The IllinoisPGA Distinguished Service Award.

Abrams who played basketball and baseball in addition to golf in high school, went on to play basketball and golf in at Lycoming College in Williamsport PA.

Abrams started his professional golf career at the Lincolnshire Country Club in 1991 under head golf professional Jay Williams. A few years later he moved over to Balmoral Woods being hired by David Mortell. Abrams has won several awards in his career including the IPGA Horton Smith Award, and Bill Strausbaugh Award.

Abrams and his wife Kathleen are residents of Orland Park, and have three children.
