DePaul University Assistant Golf Coach Michael Schachner swings away on the 1st hole, during Round 1 of the Illinois Open.

Round 2 is in the books at the White Eagle Golf Club in Naperville Illinois.

David Perkins of East Peoria has a 1 shot lead heading into Wednesday’s final round.

Right behind Perkins is Varun Chopra and amateur Marcus Smith of Rockford.

Scores have not been low, as a result there are plenty of players within just five shots of the lead. Wednesday should be an exciting finishing round. The final round will go off both tee’s in order to finish earlier in the day. Both high heat and rain are expected in the afternoon.

THE WESTERN AMATUER is now underway at Exmoor Country Club, there is a18 more holes of stroke play before the field is cut from 156 players down to the low-44 and ties. Defending champion Michael Thorbjornsen had a rough start with a double bogey and a bogey on the second hole, before rebounding back into contention with an under par score..

THE ILLINOIS JUNIOR GIRLS championship is under way in downstate Forsyth Illinois at the Hickory Point Golf Course. Because of the overload of tournaments this week, the next recap on this event will be later in the week.

THE PGA JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP has started at Cog Hill Golf Club, more details coming later in this over-crowded tournament week. But there will be a recap on this event later this week.

COURSE REOPENING-It appears that Settlers Hill in Batavia will reopen later this week from the 21 month renovation, by architect Greg Martin. So stay tuned for details here on opening day.
