TOURNEY TIME!

This week there are two tournaments in the Chicago area, and warm out or not I’ll be at both of them.

First on the tee today, is the Illinois Open at the White Eagle Golf Club in Naperville.

Defending champion T-K Kelly is not in the field and playing on the Korn Ferry Tour, so the title is up for grabs. So maybe Bryce Emory who won the title at White Eagle in 2020, can for two in a row at the Arnold Palmer designed White Eagle Club.

University of Illinois men’s golf coach Mike Small will likely be in the hunt, along with Andy Mickelson the director of golf at Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville. Mickelson is the reigning IPGA Section champion. White Eagle Director of Golf Curtis Malm will be ready to put forth a solid three days in front of his membership.

But is there an amateur who could jump up and take the title this year ? The winner will be crowned-likely in the high heat on Wednesday afternoon.

STARTING TUESDAY AT EXMOOR is the 120th Western Amateur Championship, defending champion Michael Thorbjornsen is back this year and looking for two Western Amateur titles in a row.

WHAT I DO LIKE is that both tournaments are doing some live streaming of play, and if you can’t make it out, do check out the broadcasts. So visit each tournaments website for details on how to watch.

TOURNAMENT 3 is at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club, it’s the PGA or America Junior Tournament. Great tournament, bad week to have it in the Chicago area. Augusta Woman’s Amateur Champion Anna Green is the defending champion on the girls side. But for the second time in a month, she has WD out of a tournament in Illinois. Because Green got an exemption into the AIG British Women’s Open. Last month she pulled out of the WWGA-Amateur at Sunset Ridge.

THIS PAST WEEK the star power in golf was at the LIV Series tournament. It was not in Detroit at the PGA Tour. But kudo’s to Tony Finau for back-to-back wins, Finau is as hot as anybody in golf right now.

I AM GETTING Sick of the cry-babies whining about the LIV series of golf. Seriously if you don’t like it, that’s fine. But quit going on social media and crying about it. If you need to whine that bad-go open a bottle of it.

LEN ZIEHM at Lenziehmongolf.com has posted a column about his recent stop at the French Lick Resort. In beautiful French Lick Indiana. The resort is hosting a new Epson Tour event for the ladies on the Pete Dye Golf Course. It’s the biggest purse on the tour and should be some exciting golf. French Lick is a great getaway for those who are looking to take a golf trip.

THERE IS NO UPDATE SO FAR on the reopening of Settlers Hill in Batavia. But it should not be far away. I’ll keep everyone updated when I hear more. Because once the course does open, I do expect that it will be crowded right away.

THIS WEEK is expected to be a hot one. So when your out playing do take some water with you and stay hydrated.

THE SUMMER is flying by quickly, and Golfers on Golf Radio is down to it’s final 3 shows. I hope you can join us live on Saturday mornings at 10 Am on WNDZ-AM 750 Chicago.

THE GOG BLOG returns all week long. RS
