INNISBROOK RESORT-PART 2

So after Part 1 at Innisbrook with Doug Schmidt, Len Ziehm and I decided for Round 2.

But this time with Innisbrook resort GM Mike Williams.

Because Len and I are Chicago guys, we corralled Williams to sit with us for a taping of the Ziehm & Spears Podcast Series, and we made the location the resorts famed Packard’s Steakhouse. But that wasn’t enough being in Packard’s, we recorded at the Packard table right below where Larry Packard’s famed Red ASGCA (American Society Golf Course Architects) Tartan Jacket hangs on the wall.

Len and I discussed with Mike Williams, the effect of Covid on the resort, how it will bounce back, the Valspar Championship coming up next month. The recent renovations to the resort, and the Packard influence on the golf courses. Plus maybe a short course coming Innisbrook’s way in the months ahead. Williams took us through the resort and Valspar having to be the first PGA Tour event fully cancelled in 2020. Because it happened on short notice, so short that some players had already arrived and were staying at the resort.

But that wasn’t all. Because Copperhead was primed for the professionals, who would not be playing.  So a play where the pro’s play campaign started. But it didn’t last, as the resort had to close 10 days later. Williams insight on Innisbrook, and what could come next at the property and the golf travel industry, are all worth a listen.
