CANTIGNY GOLF that is part of the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, and managed by KemperSports, is announcing the promotion of Matt Tullar to head golf professional.
Tullar’s promotion takes effect on March 1st.
But the position is not totally new to Tullar. Because Tullar has been the assistant head golf professional at Cantigny since 2010.
So now Tullar will oversee all golf operations including the Cantigny Golf Academy, Cantigny Youth Links, golf shop, tee time reservations and outdoor golf services.
During the golf season, Tullar will oversee the Cantigny golf staff of close to 80 members.
“Promoting Matt was an easy decision,” said Terry Hanley, Cantigny Golf general manager. “He is a true professional, hard working and well-liked by our staff and guests. Matt knows Cantigny Golf inside and out, and he’s full of good ideas that will make us even better.”
Tullar actually began at Cantigny in 2006 as an intern. He graduated from Ferris State University in 2008. But in 2009 he became a Class A member of the PGA.
But Tullar’s work has not been just at Cantigny. Because during the winter season’s he worked at both Bay Colony Golf Club in Naples, and Old Marsh Golf Club in West Palm Beach. Both clubs are located in Florida.
“To be named head professional at a one-of-a-kind place like Cantigny is truly an honor,” Tullar said. “I’ve been lucky to learn and grow alongside the wonderful staff here and golf course itself is a treasure. So the 2021 season can’t arrive soon enough.”
Tullar grew up in Downers Grove, but he and his wife Katy who met at Cantigny in 2010, are now Winfield residents.
Cantigny earned the “Best New Public Course in America” by Golf digest when it opened. The club was designed by Roger Packard.
