The NEW Vokey Sm8 wedges are here and available for purchase.
Vokey and Titleist feel the SM8’s are both the most accurate and forgiving Vokey wedges to date.
The Vokey Wedge Center of Gravity (CG) design that started with SM6, was changed with SM7, and has now shifted forward with SM8.
What the Vokey design team has done, is too shift the CG to a new location in front of the wedge face. The results test out to having more distance and trajectory control, better feel and more consistent results.
Click here to hear our interview with the Wizard of Wedges Titleist’s Bob Vokey on the new SM8’s.
Vokey wedges the #1 wedge played on tour, come with Vokey’s six tour-proven grinds for fitting, and the spin milled grooves that create maximum spin.
The SM8 wedges come in four finishes, Tour Chrome, Brushed Steel, and Jet Black, and the tour-preferred Raw finish (through custom order only).
The Vokey team wanted to push the CG forward, while they maintained the vertical CG position to create a better feeling shot, at contact. To make this happen, the team lengthened the hosels and counterbalanced that weight with high-density tungsten low in the toe.
“The first time I had guys hit the SM8 was on the range at Riviera (2019),” said Vokey. “I always listen to the sound they’re making at impact, and it was phenomenal. ‘Solid but soft’ was how they described it. They loved it. That means they’re getting the proper feedback that you need to execute every type of wedge shot, whether you’re in the , in a bunker or around the green. They just talked a lot about the flight. It’s a better window, it’s more consistent, and that they have more control of it. Overall, guys just keep telling me how easy it is to hit every type of shot they wanted to hit. They just felt like they were getting more out of the wedge-and that’s because Kevin Tassistro (Director of Wedge R&D) and his team were able to move the CG forward out in the front of the face, to a place we would have never have imagined 20 years ago.”
You can narrow down which grind F,S,M,K,L, or D is for you by using the the Vokey Wedges selector tool found at Vokey.com. But then Vokey recommends golfers go to their local Titleist fitter to support your find.
When the Vokey SM8 wedges made their tour debut, it was November at the RSM Classic. 37 players put the wedges into play that week, including champion Tyler Duncan. By the Sony Open this past January 167 SM8 wedges made there way into the bags of 60 players. Sony winner Cameron Smith had four Jet-black SM8’s in his bag.
Then in December Adam Scott won the Australian PGA Championship with four new SM8’s in his bag (48.10 F, 52.12 F, 56.10 S, 60.06 K).
The Vokey SM8’s are now in your favorite pro shop or golf retail store. Learn more by visiting Titleist.com or Vokey.com.
