The Bay Hill improvement plan

The Arnold Palmer Design Company has announced this afternoon, improvements to the home of “The King”, Bay Hill Club and Lodge.

The plan shows that a two-acre short game facility will be added, along with improvements to the driving range.

The enhancements will begin with  the short-game area, that will include four greens of various shapes, and a variety of bunkers of different depths and sizes, to help prepare golfers for what they will encounter on the golf course.

“It is important to us to design a facility that showcases on-course scenarios not only found at Bay Hill, but other situations players would find playing at other top courses around the world,” said Brandon Johnson, APDC architect and Vice President. “The new short game area will allow members and guests to get lost in their practice sessions honing basic shots or experimenting with a variety of recovery shots that incorporate flat pitch slopes, nobs, false fronts, backboards and various bunker styles.”

To find space to build the new facility, the 9th hole of the Charger Course will be redesigned into a drivable par 4. Then the championship course will get a new state-of-the-art irrigation system installed. This will allow the superintendent to control water outputs in a more efficient  manner, that will result in faster and firmer playing conditions, and a stronger and healthier turf grass.

BAY HILL the southern home of the late, great Arnold Palmer is located only minutes from downtown Orlando Florida. Bay Hill has 70 rooms, and 27 holes of golf. It is the home of the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy, a full sized spa and fitness center.

Bay Hill is the home of the Arnold Palmer PGA Tour event recently won by Rory McIlroy.
