AS THE WEEK BEGINS there is good news coming from the Quad Cities.

The John Deere Classic has announced this morning, another outstanding year of raising money.

Because the JDC’s Birdies for Charity arm of the classic, has raised over $12 million dollars in revenue in 2021.

The amount shows an increase of over $350,000 from 2020, when there was no championship. But this year there was a classic/with restrictions.

The John Deere Classic will be handing out checks to over 470 charities in the Quad Cities area. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from John Deere. One lucky couple was just one birdie off, from the total amount of birdies made this year, Classic week. They were awarded a free two-year lease on a new Lexus. 2021 was the third highest amount ever raised by the JDC. The Quad Cities, small towns. But a big heart = real help. Well done JDC.

COVID-There is a new strain out. It is starting to affect both the NBA and the NHL. So will it start to affect golf tournaments going forward. Let’s hope not. But most golfers on the major tours seemed to be vaccinated. But spectators may not be. So might there need to vaccination checks to get into tournaments, I hope not. We will see.

THE OMAR URESTI RULE is going into effect via the PGA of America. Club professionals seem to be celebrating after watching Uresti clean-up at various championships. But as you might guess, Uresti is not happy. Because he did nothing illegal. He did follow the rules. But club pro’s don’t like former PGA Tour players, who had a long run on PGA Tour, falling back into their ranks to compete. Stay tuned to see what happens next here.

The Mistwood Golf Dome on Rt. 53 in Bolingbrook is also home to McWethy’s Sports Bar. (630)-739-7600 Mistwooddome.com book your hitting bay online.

THE FIRST OUTING of 2022 is coming up quickly. So have you signed up for the Eskimo Open on Jan. 2nd at Cog Hill. Because maybe there might not be snow on the ground for this one. Or maybe just enough snow to build a small igloo. Sign up today at CogHillgolf.com or call Cog Hill at (866)-COG-HILL.

I HAVE NOW TRIED the new Cog Hill Range Picker Pale Ale-I enjoyed it. Pick up a four pack to go at Cog Hill. ON THE JEMSEK GOLF FRONT-the new Patio at Pine Meadow in Mundelein is open. Enjoy a beverage on the patio-maybe this Wednesday when the temps get close to 70. So the weather folks say, we will see.

THE ZIEHM & SPEARS PODCAST SERIES will return this week. So stay tuned for the posting of our next edition.

I DID VISIT THE GOLF SHACK in Glenview. owner Nick Larkin’s new venture is pretty good. Located just off Waukegan road on Chestnut, the Shack is pretty good. So book a simulator and enjoy the food, have a beverage.

THE LONG WAIT TO OPEN the new Fox Run Clubhouse should be over this Friday. Final sign-off for occupation by the EGFD should happen in the next day or so. Stay clicked in for more details on opening day.

The Gog Blog will return tomorrow. RS
